ABC still has not made a decision about The Rookie: Feds Season 2. Could this end up being a casualty of the current strike delays?

ABC made a decision about the majority of its shows before the May Upfronts. We went into the summer with two shows still on the bubble, and one of them was The Rookie: Feds. (Home Economics was the other.)

There still hasn’t been a decision made about the future of the federal agent drama starring Neicy Nash-Betts. With the strike delays still going on, could we end up with some bad news? TVLine hasn’t had any good news lately.

Will The Rookie: Feds end up canceled?

While negotiations can’t go on right now, ABC could probably choose to renew the show if it wanted. That would have likely been written into the contracts of the first season. It would also be able to extend cast options should they run out before the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end.

The question is whether ABC wants to risk the show. There are going to be some heavy delays for scripted shows in the 2023–2024 season. A lot of shows aren’t coming back until January 2024 at the earliest, and we could end up waiting a little longer.

We could see ABC decide not to renew The Rookie: Feds because of this. It would mean too much of a delay, and freshman shows are in the most danger. If there’s a long delay, the viewers don’t necessarily return. While Feds could have a great lead-in with The Rookie and it has Nash-Betts in the lead, the ratings were on the lower side than ABC would have probably liked in the first season, which could lead to the worry that not enough people will come back to watch the second with such a long wait.

We could also see The Good Doctor spin-off, The Good Lawyer, not get picked up due to the strike delays.

The Rookie: Feds is available to stream on Hulu.
