Magnum PI Season 5B is not coming to NBC in September 2023

We get the start of fall TV in September, and we’re ready to see our favorites return. Sadly, that doesn’t include Magnum PI Season 5B this month.

Fall TV is looking very different this year. Very few scripted shows are returning or premiering, although NBC does have a few. The Irrational will premiere in September, but that’s it out of the crime dramas you’re likely watching.

Sadly, Magnum PI Season 5B is not on the list of September premieres. There is some good news to follow this, though. It is a show that’s coming back this fall.

When will Magnum PI Season 5B premiere on NBC?

While the series isn’t arriving this month, we only have to wait an extra month. Magnum PI Season 5B will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 4. It will air at 10 p.m. ET/PT, following new episodes of Quantum Leap.

Yes, this was a show originally slated for the midseason. NBC wanted a normal fall, but the strike action in Hollywood changed those plans. Instead, a lot of midseason shows were pulled forward if they could be, and Magnum PI was one that could be. The final 10 episodes had already been filmed and were ready to go.

We do have bad news to follow. Magnum PI Season 5B is now the end. This doesn’t sound like it was the original plan, but the strike action caused a few issues. The cast options came up for renewal at the same time that the initial SAG-AFTRA contracts came up for renewal. Not knowing what was going to happen, NBC opted to release the cast and cancel the show instead of waiting for a resolution. It’s certainly disappointing for fans, especially after a bad timeslot for the first half of the season.

Magnum PI Season 5B will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 10/9c on NBC. Episodes will stream on Peacock the following day.
