Is East New York canceled? (Will East New York Season 2 happen?)

“Pilot” – Amanda Warren stars as Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th Precinct in East New York – a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification. With family ties to the area, Haywood is determined to deploy creative methods to protect her beloved community with the help of her officers and detectives. But first, she has the daunting task of getting them on board, as some are skeptical of her promotion, and others resist the changes she is desperate to make. Her team includes her mentor, shrewd veteran two-star Chief John Suarez; Marvin Sandeford, a highly respected training officer and expert on the neighborhood; Tommy Killian, a detective with some old-school approaches to policing; Capt. Stan Yenko, Haywood’s gregarious and efficient right hand; Crystal Morales, an intuitive detective who can’t be intimidated; Andre Bentley, a trainee from an upper middle-class background; and ambitious patrol officer Brandy Quinlan, the sole volunteer to live in a local housing project as part of Haywood’s plan to bridge the gap between police and community. Regina Haywood has a vision: she and the squad of the 74th Precinct will not only serve their community – they’ll also become part of it, on the series premiere of EAST NEW YORK, Sunday, Oct. 2 (9:30-10:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*, before moving to its regular 9:00-10:00 PM time slot Oct. 9. Series also stars Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi and Lavel Schley.Pictured (L-R): Amanda Warren as Regina Haywood and Richard Kind as Captain Stan Yenko. With such a long wait for a lot of scripted shows, has CBS changed its mind about some cancellations? Will East New York Season 2 now happen?

We would love nothing more to say that there will be more East New York. The freshman series was canceled just ahead of the May Upfronts.

It was almost renewed. It turns out that this series and SWAT were fighting for the same timeslot in the fall schedule. SWAT was originally canceled, but due to Shemar Moore and the fans on social media, the series was renewed for a seventh and final season. That led to the cancellation of the Amanda Warren series.

Is East New York Season 2 now going to happen?

However, the fall schedule isn’t working out as planned. SWAT is now no longer going to air on Fridays at 8/7c as CBS wanted. Does this open the door for East New York to be renewed after all?

Sadly not. The reason for the delay isn’t due to the series itself or CBS’s wishes to push to the midseason. Instead, it’s all linked to the current strike action going on in Hollywood. Almost all scripted shows on broadcast networks are being pushed to 2024.

No negotiations can happen right now. Nothing can be done about the cancellation of East New York, even if CBS does see an opening to bring it back. The fight to save the show came to an end with disappointing news, and the current strike action has led to other disappointing decisions, including the cancellations of The Peripheral and A League of Their Own on Amazon.

It’s not clear what will happen with the freshman shows that CBS had planned for the 2023–2024 or any of the pilots that were still in consideration. Everything is in limbo right now.
