Law & Order: SVU Season 25: Will Molly Burnett return as Grace Muncy?

Law & Order: SVU saw a surprisingly short-lived term for new cop Grace Muncy. Is it possible Molly Burnett’s character returns in Law & Order: SVU Season 25?

The second episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 24 had the team working with a gang unit investigating an attack on a family on the subway. Among the gang unit members was Grace Muncy (Molly Burnett), with Benson taken by the young woman’s drive and attitude. She talked Muncy into joining the SVU team.

By the season’s mid-way point, Burnett was now in the opening credits, and Muncy was filling the spot when Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) left the team. While Muncy had drive, she also carried a short temper that could bend the rules too much for Benson’s liking.

Muncy sadly crossed a line when she took a perp down with too much force. At the man’s trial, Muncy lost it on the witness stand, which led to a mistrial. She did redeem herself by being able to catch the guy later.

Another episode had Muncy’s brother getting in deep with a club owner who was drugging girls and Muncy trying to cover for him. By this point, it seemed she was a bit lost on the team. In the crossover finale with Law & Order: Organized Crime, Muncy revealed she had been offered a job on a special DEA task force, a huge promotion.

While wary of leaving Benson after all she’d done for her, Muncy accepted the offer, shown cleaning out her desk and hugging Fin goodbye.

So, was that truly the last we’ve seen of Muncy?

Is Muncy coming back to Law & Order: SVU Season 25?

The sudden departure of Muncy was surprising, making her one of the shortest-tenured cast members on the show. There’s no word on why Burnett left, as it seems she is, in fact, gone from the series.

To be frank, Muncy never seemed a good fit for SVU with her attitude and that temper too much of a liability on cases. While Benson hoped to smooth her tough edges, it didn’t quite take. This DEA job seems more up Muncy’s alley and a better job for her.

There’s always the chance Muncy makes a cameo if the SVU team needs the DEA’s help, but it seems unlikely we’ll be seeing her again, making Muncy a one-season-only character for Law & Order: SVU.
