SWAT Season 6 had some interesting developments for Commander Robert Hicks. Could SWAT Season 7 bring a huge personal decision for the SWAT boss?

Season 6 of SWAT had Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit) doing his usual handling of the team and their cases. Hicks had to make tough choices like suspending Tan when he got into a bar fight and meeting a former cop turned FBI agent he’d turned down for SWAT duty.

One case was tough on Hicks as it involved a kid from a hostage situation a few years earlier. Hicks had hoped the kid could turn himself around, but it ended in tragedy. Hicks also had Luca concerned about his health after some odd behavior, but it turned out Hicks was just adjusting to his first date since his wife had passed away.

One of the last episodes of the season had Hicks facing the anniversary of his joining the LAPD, making him think about his legacy and how long he could keep at the job. Those were all good personal stories but a question if this means Hicks might be planning a big move for the show’s final season.

Could Hicks retire in SWAT Season 7?

SWAT managed to survive a brush with cancellation to earn a seventh and final season, which is due in 2024. Among the questions is if Hicks is thinking it’s finally time to retire. It’s tough, but he is getting up there in years and reflected on how perhaps allowing new blood to take charge is a good thing.

The idea Hicks promotes either Deacon or Hondo to his place is intriguing, although this sounds more like something that would happen in the series finale. Yet it would be something if Hicks decides to bow out with dignity and knowing he’s leaving SWAT in good hands. Either way, his decision could have a major effect on the series’ final episodes.

SWAT is available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+.
