5 TV crime shows to watch this week
Found
NBC smartly held this series back from its planned February premiere. Thus, they now have a full season to run for fresh programming. The new show has Shanola Hampton as a woman who survived being abducted as a child. She now leads a group searching for missing persons the cops have ignored.
The show looks to have some sharp drama with a new search every week while also hinting that there’s more to Hampton’s own abduction than she’s revealed. It looks like a top series NBC can use right now and give crime fans something to enjoy.
Found premieres on NBC on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 10/9c.
Magnum PI
It’s bittersweet news for fans of the reboot of the crime hit. Yes, it’s back with the last half of Season 5, but sadly, it will also be the final season for the series after NBC picked it up. It should follow the fallout of the last episode, where Magnum had to defend himself and his friends from a terrorist out for revenge.
The new episodes have Magnum continuing to tackle unique crimes while his buddies help and of course, more of the Magum/Higgins romance. Hopefully, the series will end on a high note to reward fans of this revival.
Magnum PI Season 5, Part 2 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9/8c on NBC.
The Spencer Sisters
The CW brings this Canadian crime series to the States for a fun dramedy. Lea Thompson is a mystery novelist and Stacy Farber is her daughter, with people mistakenly thinking they’re sisters. Farber just quit her job as a cop in protest of being overlooked and moved back home.
When a mutual friend is falsely accused of plagiarism, the pair put their differences aside to help. They then hit on the idea of running a private eye agency, using their mutual gift for crime-solving in what looks like a delightful charming show to entertain viewers.
The Spencer Sisters premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9/8c on The CW.
Lupin Part 3
At last, the hit French crime series returns for a third go around. Omar Sy is back as master thief Assane Diop. Fresh off finally putting his rival Dumont in jail, Assane is on the move as it’s better for his wife and son that he doesn’t stay near them.
Season 3 has Assane deciding to come back to Paris and help his family escape. However, Dumont is among the many faces of the past who want Assane dead, putting the thief on a wild chase to keep himself and his family safe for the ultimate escape.
Lupin Part 3 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 6 on Netflix.
Better
A surprise drop on Hulu is this compelling British crime thriller. Leila Farzad is Lou Slack, a police officer who’s long been doing the dirty work of a Scottish mob. From fixing evidence to covering up a murder, Lou has done it all for money for her son. But when the boy nearly dies, Lou has a wake-up call and decides to make amends for what she’s done.
Obviously, crossing the mob isn’t a good idea as Lou also has to make sure her fellow officers don’t know the truth about her. The five-episode series is a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase as Lou has to learn what it means to be a real cop fighting for justice.
Better Season 1 now streaming on Hulu.
