The CW has been in flux thanks to some behind-the-scenes turnovers and the cancellation of scores of long-popular scripted shows. A few are coming back, such as Walker, but are delayed further by the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
So, the CW has been reaching to acquire shows from Canada. Among them is The Spencer Sisters, which aired on CTV earlier this year. Here’s more info on what to know about this new mystery dramedy show!
What is The Spencer Sisters about?
Darby Spencer is having a pretty bad day. After years of trying to prove herself on the police force, she’s finally realized her bosses are never going to see her skills as a detective, so quits. She then finds her boyfriend cheating on her and has to move out of their apartment.
Darby realizes there’s only one place to go: her hometown of Alder Buffs, where her mother, Victoria, is a rich and famous mystery novelist. She’s also rather egotistical and other problems that have led them to a strained relationship. It’s not helped that thanks to Victoria’s looks, people think the pair are sisters, not mother and daughter.
When a mutual friend is accused of plagiarism, the women put their differences aside to help. Victoria then hits on the idea of starting a detective agency, pointing out how both of them have a knack for it. Now, from small crimes to murder, the “sisters” are on the job and ready to solve any mystery, the biggest being how they can get along.
Who stars in The Spencer Sisters?
The big star is Lea Thompson as Victoria. The veteran actress is known for roles from the Back To the Future trilogy to Switched at Birth and a few Hallmark mystery movies.
Stacey Fabrer came to fame as Ellie on the long-running hit Degrassi: The Next Generation. She’s added to it with roles in Saving Hope, Superman & Lois, and Virgin River. The pair look to highlight this fun cast.
