The WGA strike has come to an end, but what does that mean for the return of scripted TV? When will NCIS Season 21 premiere on CBS?

Fall 2023 is not the same for the world of TV. Everything has changed due to the strike action. It’s the thing that the writers and actors wanted to make it clear that the studios had to start negotiating in good faith.

The good news is the WGA strike has come to an end. Now it’s time for the SAG-AFTRA union members to talk to the studios. Until that happens, it means we’re still in the same position as we have been for a while.

We don’t expect NCIS Season 21 this month. We don’t expect it at all in 2023, but are we a step closer to getting episodes?

When will NCIS Season 21 premiere on CBS?

While there isn’t a premiere date yet, we’re looking at sometime in 2024 right now. There is a chance that we could get episodes in early 2024, but this will depend on when the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. Even with scripts being written, there will be nothing until production can start up.

It’s getting close to Thanksgiving to get a bulk of episodes filmed for January 2024. This could mean a March 2024 premiere date for a lot of shows, especially something like NCIS, which doesn’t require a lot of graphics in post-production.

We did get some sad news on NCIS Day. David McCallum passed away at the age of 90, which means that we won’t get any more Ducky in the show. With some hope, the series will handle this loss in a way where art imitates life. It would be possible to write off Ducky as dying from natural causes as well, allowing the team to grieve in their own ways and for fans to grieve the loss of an amazing character and actor.

NCIS is available to stream on Paramount+.
