Season 13 of Blue Bloods had Commissioner Frank Reagan handling more than his share of personal and political crises. Can Blue Bloods Season 14 bring even more changes for Tom Selleck’s intrepid boss?

Season 13 of the long-running CBS police hit once more had Frank dealing with the challenges of running the country’s biggest police department. It opened with Frank and Archbishop Kearns going incognito around New York so Frank could get a feel for things. That meant Frank was unaware of Jamie being shot and wounded in the field.

Frank’s challenges over the season were varied as he had to deal with various police misconduct issues, including staffer Gormley getting into an altercation in public. Frank also tried to stay out of Erin’s plans to run for District Attorney, knowing he couldn’t be seen as biased to his own daughter.

Things really got personal when the grave of Frank’s late son Joe was desecrated with his son, Joe Hill, going to extremes to find out who did it. They combined in a later case, showing how tough things were between them, but they made peace.

Frank also had plenty of clashes with Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh), from Chase’s plans for the NYPD to bussing around immigrants to even wanting to round up homeless people. It built to public clashes before Kearns brokered peace, pointing out to Chase that mayors come and go, but Frank tends to stay.

So, with so much happening in Season 13, what can the new year bring for Frank?

Will Frank still be at his job in Blue Bloods Season 14?

With the writer’s strike finally ending, Blue Bloods just needs the SAG strike settled to finally get back to work and hopefully back on the air in early 2024. That leaves questions about what will happen to Frank and others.

Frank may have made peace with Chase for now, but it’s likely to get tougher for him as there’s still tension. At least Erin’s decision not to run for DA means Frank doesn’t have to choose sides in that election, and he and Joe Hill get along well.

Sadly, the show will likely have to address the loss of Frank’s longtime friend Lennie Ross as actor Treat Williams tragically died this past June. In his last appearance in Season 13, Lennie revealed he had a terminal illness, so it’s likely explained he passed away and see Frank affected by it.

Frank will also continue to be the father, handling some troublesome kids with good advice and doing what he thinks is right, no matter the public perception. As Kearns said, Frank has survived so much already, so Season 14 is likely to continue his great run as NYPD Commissioner.

Blue Bloods is now streaming on Paramount+.
