The Irrational Episode 6 saw Alec Mercer act as an expert witness in a wrongful death trial. Malcolm-Jamal Warner was his police counterpart.

Fans of The Resident will have been happy to see Malcolm-Jamal Warner in another show. He appeared in The Irrational Season 1, Episode 6, as a counterpart to Alec during a wrongful death trial.

Alec saw the defense’s witness and sneered at the man who it was. This is where Warner’s character came into the story, and it was clear that we weren’t really meant to like him, but he’s not necessarily the worst character on the series.

Who is Malcolm-Jamal Warner on The Irrational?

We absolutely love The Raptor on The Resident, but that’s not the case in The Irrational. Warner is introduced as Dr. Dustin Atwood, who is the expert witness for the police. Alec notes that Atwood is always able to justify a police shooting, even when it’s clear that there is bias and racial discrimination at hand.

We watched as Atwood managed to twist some of the answers to fit his narrative. He even avoided some of the questions without making things difficult for the case. It turns out that Atwood has been blocking studies on police officers when they go into stressful situations to understand their brain chemistry and the way they react.

However, Atwood helped to bring the case to a positive end for Alec Mercer. When Alec uncovered that the victim had been on the brink of exposing a wrongdoing by a multinational corporation that had the judge who signed off on the arrest warrant at the heart of it, he needed Atwood on his side to prove it. As Atwood got all the information, he did accept that this was murder and unjustifiable, so he helped to close the case.

The Irrational airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
