We were introduced to Dr. Dustin Atwood in The Irrational Season 1, Episode 6. That isn’t going to be the last time we see him, right?

During The Irrational Season 1, Episode 6, we got to meet another expert in behavioral science. Alec Mercer took on the role of expert witness for the prosecution because of Dr. Dustin Atwood, played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

It was clear from the start that Atwood would cause a couple of problems with bias. He knew how to manipulate the jurors. However, Alec had more than just that to deal with as he learned more about who the victim was and what the victim was finding out and ready to expose.

In the end, Atwood helped Alec prove that the judge had changed the address on the no-knock warrant. The door has certainly been left open for him to return.

Will Dr. Dustin Atwood return in The Irrational?

At this point, it’s not clear if Atwood will return. We would certainly love to see Warner’s character back after the way the previous episode ended. Also, The Resident fans really want to see him in another series.

However, the storyline would need to be right for this. It’s clear that Atwood has an agenda as an expert witness. He always takes the side of the cops. I think the only reason he couldn’t in the end of this episode is because there was more at play. This wasn’t a wrongful death but murder, and even Atwood couldn’t stand by and let that happen.

Atwood and Alec had some great moments together. They are both smart men. In fact, they’re experts in their field. There are plenty of ways that Atwood could come back up, whether it’s another court case or because Alec or Atwood need each other’s help.
