With the SAG-AFTRA strike coming to an end, eyes are on production start dates. Eyes are also on episode counts for NCIS Season 21 and more.

As the strike action went on, we knew that 22-episode seasons were out of the question. At one point, we worried that 13-episode seasons wouldn’t happen. There is a little bit of good news when it comes to the strike action. The SAG-AFTRA strike has ended. Whether that’s for good or not will depend on actors ratifying the deal, but there is some good news and we’ll probably see something like the WGA strike.

So, now it comes to what to expect in the upcoming seasons. Is a 13-episode season for NCIS Season 21 possible? It could be.

Will NCIS Season 21 have 13 episodes?

Right now, Deadline reports that NCIS Season 21 is set to be one of the first shows back in production. While the publication doesn’t give an episode count, it does say that the Dick Wolf dramas, including the FBIs, are set to have 13 episodes still. That is still possible with filming for them set to start up around Nov. 27, 2023.

NCIS could follow a similar plan. It is possible that we’ll see a 13-episode season because of this. That is the plan, with the season starting up around March 2024, probably. Anything earlier than that will be a push, especially since the strike contract makes it clear that the winter break for the actors won’t be reduced to get shows back on track.

Deadline does also say that a 10-episode season may happen. However, this will depend on the style of show and the amount of post-production work that is needed. NCIS is one of those easier shows when it comes to post-production.

NCIS is available to stream on Paramount+.
