Just as the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, there is some bad news for The Rookie: Feds. The ABC series has been canceled, but can it be saved?
We had hoped for some delayed good news about The Rookie: Feds, but that hasn’t been the case. Less than 24 hours after the SAG-AFTRA strike has come to a tentative end, ABC has made a decision. The show will not get a second season.
In a way, this decision will be unsurprising. The Rookie was renewed for a sixth season back in April. Will Trent, which aired after The Rookie: Feds on Tuesdays in the midseason, was relatively quickly renewed for a second season. The wait for Feds was a sign that things weren’t looking good.
Could The Rookie: Feds be saved by another network?
Right now, it doesn’t sound like the show is going to be shopped around. TVLine reported the news of the cancellation and that’s it.
This doesn’t mean that it can’t be shopped around. After all, a lot of hard work goes into these TV shows. The problem is that it’s been so long since the show’s finale. Had the show been canceled back in April, it would have been much easier for it to be shopped around and potentially saved.
The live ratings will also be a concern for other networks. This show didn’t perform the best, with the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot potentially being a problem. The move to the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot didn’t help enough, though.
The Rookie: Feds did perform well in the delayed ratings, though. This was where there was hope on the show being renewed, so it could be one of those shows that could perform well on streaming. If any streamer was going to step in, it would likely be Hulu as it already streams the episodes. That’s owned by Disney just like ABC, so if it was going to be saved by Hulu, we would have heard immediately.
The Rookie: Feds is available to stream on Hulu.
