Is Big Little Lies Season 3 actually in the works?
With it being so long since Big Little Lies Season 2, many were surprised to hear that Season 3 was going to happen. Is that going to be the case, though?
When Big Little Lies was first brought to screens, it was for one season. The show was designed as a limited series, based on the single novel of the same name. Then the show was renewed, and we got to see the aftermath of everything that happened in the first season.
Then fans waited for news about a third season. This was tricky, and everyone had agreed that the only reason to keep the show going was if there was a storyline to tell. It looks like there may be a storyline in the works, as Nicole Kidman announced that Big Little Lies Season 3 would happen, according to TVLine.
Will Big Little Lies Season 3 actually happen, though?
The news came from a comment Kidman made about loving to work on Big Little Lies. She added, “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI,” which certainly made a lot of fans happy to hear.
However, it’s worth noting that nothing official has been said by HBO yet. In fact, HBO declined to comment on the renewal announcement at all. This would suggest that it may not be in the works, and it’s something that Kidman and co. are talking about behind the scenes right now.
There are a few obstacles in the way. When Season 1 director and EP Jean-Marc Vallée passed away in 2021, Zoë Kravitz noted that she couldn’t imagine doing the show without him. He was the “visionary” for it, although there could be ways around this.
EP David E. Kelley had also said that there were a few logistical problems in a third season. All cast members are busy with other projects. Despite the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actors will still have other projects on the go. Apple TV+ is still to renew The Morning Show, but there’s a good chance that Reese Witherspoon will be busy with that so far.
It doesn’t sound like HBO has officially renewed Big Little Lies for a third season. However, there is some interest in it.
