The Spencer Sisters is currently airing on Wednesdays on The CW, but that first season is coming to an end soon. Will there be a second season of the Canadian drama?
The CW has picked up a fair few Canadian dramas, and The Spencer Sisters is the most recent. This PI series follows a mother and daughter duo who figure out crimes and catch the killers. It’s a standard whodunit style of show, and it’s coming to an end on The CW soon.
The first season only has 10 episodes. Canadians already know how it finishes, and now all eyes are on whether the show will be renewed or not. This isn’t The CW’s decision, though. What has CTV decided for the procedural?
Is The Spencer Sisters Season 2 happening?
As of right now, CTV hasn’t made a decision about the show. This is somewhat bad news for The Spencer Sisters. After all, the first season came to an end back in April 2023. If CTV was going to renew the show, it should have happened by now.
This wasn’t a series caught up in the strike action. However, it is possible that the Canadian unions were trying to honor the strike as much as possible. Not all of the international unions could, but some individuals did try to.
What about The CW, though? While the network doesn’t have a say over the renewal, it will have a say over licensing the second season. The series has been performing relatively middle of the ground for the network, sitting in sixth place out of nine in the demo. It sits in fourth place out of the total audience.
This could be strong enough to license the second season if CTV renews it. Licensing a show is much cheaper than producing it, which is something The CW will want.
The Spencer Sisters airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
