In a surprising move, Only Murders in the Building is getting a network showcase on ABC this January. When exactly will that happen?

Debuting in 2021, Only Murders in the Building quickly became a huge success for Hulu. The series focuses on Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), a Broadway producer fallen on hard times and Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), the former star of a 1980s police TV show who live in the fancy Arconia building in New York City.

When another resident of the building is killed, the pair join with Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) to investigate and run a podcast on their efforts to solve it to become famous. This kicks off a complex mystery with various twists and turns amid some sharp comic writing.

The show has been a hit with audiences, just wrapping up its third season on Hulu with multiple Emmy nominations. It has been a Hulu exclusive, but this January, ABC will begin airing the first season. 

The obvious reason is that with their delayed 2023-24 season not debuting until mid-February, ABC needs something to fill up air time in January. So, providing viewers a chance to check out the show can be good for ratings. It can also get more folks to want to subscribe to Hulu to watch the following two seasons.

So when does Only Murders in the Building Season 1 premiere?

The schedule for Only Murders in the Building Season 1 on ABC

The show will begin airing the day after New Year and follow the winter premiere of Celebrity Jeopardy. The plan is to air three episodes each on consecutive weeks, with the Season 1 finale on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

This is interesting as the schedule means the usual local news will be put off until midnight on the East Coast. Yet it does show ABC wanting to get more eyes on the show. Per TVLine, here’s the schedule:

Tuesday, Jan. 2

8 p.m. Celebrity Jeopardy! (winter premiere; new time slot)

9 p.m. Only Murders in the Building Episodes 1-3 (Season 1 broadcast premiere)

Tuesday, Jan. 9

8 p.m. Celebrity Jeopardy!

9 p.m. Only Murders in the Building Episodes 4-6

Tuesday, Jan. 16

8 p.m. Celebrity Jeopardy!

9 p.m. Only Murders in the Building Episodes 7-9

Tuesday, Jan. 23

8 p.m. Celebrity Jeopardy!

9 p.m. Only Murders in the Building Episode 10 (Season 1 finale)
