The Rookie Season 6 will be back in 2024, and now we know exactly when. Take a look at everything we know so far about the return of the series.
Eyes are on when our favorite shows will be back. With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes now at an end, production can start back up. In fact, Eric Winter shared a tweet of the script for the first episode of the season, making it clear that filming would start up very soon.
The renewal of The Rookie wasn’t followed up by the renewal of the spin-off series. Instead, shortly after the SAG-AFTRA strike came to an end, fans learned that The Rookie: Feds wouldn’t be renewed after all.
When will The Rookie Season 6 premiere?
ABC has set the premiere dates for its shows. They are after the Super Bowl, which isn’t that surprising. CBS and FOX have opted for the same thing. NBC is the only network bringing shows back in January.
The Rookie Season 6 is set to premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 20. It gets to keep the Tuesday slot, but it won’t kick off the night. Instead, Will Trent Season 2 will kick things off and The Rookie will move to the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. The two shows will be followed by The Good Doctor.
How many episodes are in Season 6 of The Rookie?
It looks like most shows are going to be between 10 and 13 episodes this season. ABC has not yet confirmed the exact episode length of The Rookie, but 13 episodes could work. This is a show that doesn’t have a long post-production process like some of the shows filled with CGI. It could help to keep the production process to a minimum.
A late-February return does make it possible to fit 13 episodes in to wrap everything up in May. It all depends on whether there will be a break in March or April.
Who will return to The Rookie?
We’re expecting the majority of the cast to return. This includes:
- Nathan Fillion as John Nolan
- Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez
- Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey
- Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen
- Eric Winter as Timothy ‘Tim’ Bradford
- Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper
- Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers
- Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune
The only series regular we’re on the fence about is Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen. There hasn’t been anything to say that he is not coming back, but his character’s fate was on the line at the end of the fifth season.
We would also like to see Lisseth Chavez return as Celina Juarez. She was also attacked in the Season 5 finale, and she was at Thorsen’s bedside when he flatlined. Will all of this put her off a career in law enforcement, or will it make her strive to be a better cop?
What to expect in The Rookie Season 6
The first thing to cover is Throsen’s fate. During the Season 5 finale, he was left for dead. While rushed into surgery and things looking fine, he flatlined at the very end of the season. It’s not clear if he will make it through to the sixth season. With some hope he will, offering him a chance to deal with the aftermath of the trauma.
We’re also expecting to see a wedding in the sixth season. Nolan and Bailey are engaged. While that relationship did move fast, Nolan tends to move fast in a lot of things that he does. It would make sense for a wedding to happen already.
We’d also love to see more of Chenford. They finally got together, and now it’s time to see their relationship continue to blossom. They have both looked for ways to make sacrifices in their careers for each other, and we just want them to be happy and see that it was all worth it.
The Rookie is available to stream on Hulu.
