Netflix has just added School Spirits to its roster. Here’s why a new venue for this Paramount+ series is a great thing for the supernatural crime-themed show!

Premiering in March 2023, School Spirits is set in the fictional town of Split River, Wisconsin. Maddie Nears (Peyton List) is a typical high schooler who wakes up to find herself stuck inside the high school and unable to leave.

Meeting a “support group” of teens who have passed away on the school grounds over the years, Maddie is informed she’s dead and, like them, is stuck here until she can find a way to “cross over.” Realizing she was murdered, Maddie is out to figure out what happened but soon discovers the secrets her classmates and even family have.

The show has packed in scores of twists and turns, leading to a shocking Season 1 finale. It’s been on Paramount+, yet its release on Netflix should be a major boon for it.

How School Spirits can build its audience on Netflix

It may be surprising that a Paramount+ original series is making its way to Netflix. The streamer has been adding some HBO series such as Insecure, Ballers, and Band of Brothers, yet a Paramount+ show moving over is something else.

It’s important to note that School Spirits is still on Paramount+, and it’s unsure if Season 2 will premiere on Netflix as well. This is much like how Netflix has the first five seasons of the STARZ hit Outlander, but not Seasons 6 and 7A yet. However, Netflix can only make the show more popular as Outlander saw a huge spark in viewership after its Netflix airing.

The fact is that Netflix has more subscribers than Paramount+ and often caters to the young adult demographic, which School Spirits leans toward. The show is shown among the 10 most watched programs on Netflix’s main page to show folks are latching onto it, perhaps thanks to buzz from its earlier release. Plus, rather than wait for weekly installments as before, viewers can binge the entire eight-episode season at once, making it a compelling view to enjoy the full mystery at once. That can only help the series become more popular.

With Season 2 being prepped, School Spirits can use this Netflix debut to expand its audience, gaining even more buzz and get folks to subscribe to Paramount+ to prepare for the new season. Thus, the new place on Netflix can turn School Spirits into a bigger hit to prepare for Season 2.
