East New York star now cast in Season 2 of Netflix’s The Night Agent
East New York fans were upset that CBS canceled the promising police drama. But there’s good news as star Amanda Warren has been cast in the second season of the Netflix hit The Night Agent. Here’s what we know about who she plays.
Premiering in fall 2022, East New York starred Amanda Warren as Regina Haywood, the new Deputy Inspector for a New York City precinct. Haywood had to handle the ups and downs of her police unit and fight to maintain order as well as prove herself as a commander.
The show was well received by both critics and audiences but sadly was canceled at the end of its first season. The speculation is that it might have gotten a renewal, but when CBS reversed the cancellation on SWAT, East New York was the victim.
Thankfully, Warren isn’t going to be out of work long. The actress has already lined up a new gig starring in the second season of the Netflix hit The Night Agent. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, the series focused on Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), an FBI agent who mans a phone in the basement of the White House that never rings. One night, it does as cybersecurity CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) was given the number by her aunt and uncle before they were killed.
Peter and Rose are soon being hunted as they discover a deadly conspiracy against the United States, bonding into a romance as they try to stay alive. The show was one of Netflix’s biggest hits, as proven by how it earned a second-season renewal only a week after its release in March 2023.
Who does Amanda Warren play on The Night Agent Season 2?
Per Deadline, Warren will play Catherine Weaver, “a veteran of the top-secret Night Action investigative program, who trains and oversees various Night Agents, including Basso’s new recruit, Sutherland. Smart, private, and determined, Catherine is a fierce defender of her agents, but finds it difficult to earn Peter’s trust when he struggles with betrayal issues from his experiences in Season 1.”
Showrunner Ryan Murphy intended for each season to tell a new self-contained storyline. As such, aside from Basso and Buchanan, it’s unlikely other characters from Season 1 will appear (with the exception of Kari Matchett as President Travers).
So far, there’s no word on when production of Season 2 will begin, as it was held up by the WGA and SAG strikes. Likewise, there is no word on other actors joining, but Warren’s presence should mean The Night Agent Season 2 can gain attention from East New York fans wanting more of Warren.
The Night Agent Season 1 is streaming on Netflix. East New York is streaming on Paramount+.
