Mr. Monk’s Last Case was everything we needed and more in a Monk revival movie. Now we need a sequel to that Monk movie, and not just for nostalgia.

If you haven’t checked out the Monk movie, you’ll want to stop reading and go and watch it. There are some spoilers about some of the things that Adrian Monk goes through during the course of the movie. After all, he is the reason we need a sequel.

The storyline itself was self-contained. It was designed to be Adrian’s final case he worked on, closing out a murder that had a few twists and turns that left us wondering until the very end. It was one particular personal development that makes it clear that a sequel is necessary.

We need to know what happens to Monk in a Monk movie sequel

Throughout the movie, we got hints of what Adrian was planning on doing. Sure enough, at the end, he decided it was time to take his own life. He just couldn’t go on anymore.

However, he was visited by spirits from his past. It started with his wife Molly and then moved onto so many of the victims he got closure for. It’s because of him that these spirits are able to go on in the afterlife in peace. However, his work isn’t over. One of the spirits is his next victim to help. She’s in a freezer somewhere.

Of course, another case is a great reason to get a sequel, but that’s not the main reason. At the end of the Monk movie, Adrian decided to live. We now need to see that. Anyone who suffers from mental health problems will know that thoughts of suicide don’t just go away. We don’t suddenly decide to live and that’s it for the rest of our lives. There are moments where we wonder about it again.

We need to see that play out. It’s important to show that while Adrian is good now, there are going to be moments where he might not be. We need to see him question things, but we also need to see hope. It’s important to show us that his life is worth living and that he wants to keep going. This message of hope is important for so many people who are struggling with their own mental health problems.

TV and movies play a huge role in the way we see the world. Bringing empathy and awareness is important to many people as they see themselves in the characters. Those struggling with their mental health in the way that Monk is will see that there is a character who they can relate to, and maybe it offers them something good to see that it’s okay to have moments of negative thoughts but there is a light at the end of it. You are important to the world!

When it comes to suicide and mental health, I find so many TV shows deal with that particular storyline and then move on. In some cases, those storylines are forgotten about. Monk has a chance to do something different and be the voice that so many people need.
