Reacher is back only to find himself in some major hot water in Season 2. Just who is after him and why?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for the Reacher Season 2 premiere
The first three episodes of Reacher Season 2 have our intrepid hero (Alan Ritchson) still living the life of a drifter two years after the events of Season 1. The opening scene had him making a stop at an ATM, realizing the woman in front of him was being forced to withdraw money to protect her daughter and save the girl from a carjacker, all like it was a normal errand.
He then got a message from his old friend Neagley (Maria Sten), who broke it to them that their former comrade Calvin Franz (Luke Bilyk) had been found dead, thrown out of a helicopter. Flashbacks showed how Reacher had put together a top team of recruits, bonding over a bar brawl with Calvin, in particular, idolizing Reacher.
Naturally, the two wanted answers, soon running into comrades David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos) and Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan). Karla and Reacher had shared a connection before and, despite Karla being engaged, the pair ended up spending a night together.
Meanwhile, the mysterious A.M. (Ferdinand Kingsley) was shown making moves, such as killing a guy selling him a fake passport while calling up his boss, Shane Langston (Robert Patrick), who wanted Reacher and his team dead.
What is Reacher going to do next?
The team was rocked by word that two more members had been found murdered as well. The last one was Tony Swan (Shannon Kook) and when they checked out his apartment, they found his dog starved to death, meaning Swan wasn’t coming back.
Convinced a man following them was one of the hitmen, Reacher knocked him out only to discover it was NYPD Detective Gaitano Russo (Domenick Lombardozzi) who promptly arrested Reacher.
Luckily, Russo was able to come around and help the gang out as they found a link to New Age, a military contractor group. Director of Operations Marlo Burns (Christina Cox) gave them info on one operative, only for the team to be lured into a trap. Of course, Reacher and the gang were able to take down the attackers with Reacher talking to Langston, who realized too late that Reacher was the “big guy” the dying Calvin had warned him about.
The team broke into New Age headquarters for a quick search for evidence, with one security chief dying not of injuries but a heart attack. The final scene had them rocked to see a photo of a company picnic with Swan among the employees and realize he was working for the company trying to kill them.
So that’s a big cliffhanger for the first episodes as the team is going from the hunted to the hunters. It’s up in the air what New Age is up to or how A.M. fits into it but it shows Reacher is hitting Season 2 with a huge stride.
Reacher Season 2 streams new episodes on Fridays on Prime Video.
