There is a reason Jennifer Love Hewitt is a master at her craft and the latest 911 episode proved just that. After being abducted in the midseason premiere episode, the second part of the two-part premiere followed Maddie Han as she struggled to survive a brutal kidnapping at the hands of Detective Amber Braeburn (Abigail Spencer).
As Maddie was being held captive, Buck and Chimney arrived home to find their loved one no where to be found as Jee got up asking where her mom was. At first, Chimney worried she had run off, since her wedding ring was on the sink and her phone was at the house.
However, things felt off and Hen and Eddie both arrived to support Chimney and see if they could locate Maddie. While Buck and Eddie searched for her, Chimney went to the police station with Bobby and Athena.
How did Maddie's family search for her on 911 season 8, episode 10?

He spoke to Amber, who had come back after taunting Maddie and asking her if she told anyone about her suspicions regarding whether she found the real killer. In talking to Chimney, Amber not only found out about the pregnancy but that Maddie almost took her own life due to post partum depression after having Jee-Yun.
She used the information to taunt Maddie before attempting to inject her with a syringe of fentanyl. Luckily, Maddie managed to stall by asking to let her write a note to her daughter to say goodbye.
In the meantime, Athena worked with Detective Romero to determine if their original suspect had an accomplice. When it began to appear that he had help from someone, likely a woman, they looked into previous kidnappings made by the killer.
Chimney got some help in determining whether Maddie left on her own, thanks to Mara, Hen and Karen’s daughter. She had been playing with Jee when the young girl mentioned someone was crying in the house but it wasn’t Maddie. When Chimney couldn’t get a hold of Amber, he decided to go to her house thanks to Josh giving him the address.
Athena and Romero also learned that Amber had been abducted as a teenager and arrive to the house after Amber attacked Maddie, and had already abducted the previous victim, Jayna, from the hospital after she had already been rescued.
Despite Maddie having a slit throat, she managed to save Chimney from being shot by Amber herself. Hewitt really showed just how strong Maddie was and what a fighter she was. Despite her injuries, Maddie fought with all she had to save her husband from being killed.
One character says goodbye on 911, but is it for good?

Amber, for her part, appeared to have mental health struggles that were likely magnified by her own experiences of being kidnapped as a teenager. However, with the type of mental illness that she appeared to have, it didn’t seem to come with sensitivity in regards to how it was handled. Despite this, the show really showed how much Maddie fought to survive not only for herself, but her family.
We also discovered Maddie and Chimney are having a baby boy. Both mother and unborn son survived this traumatic ordeal and we hope Maddie gets through the rest of her pregnancy with no further hiccups.
The episode also saw Eddie leaving to make his long-awaited move to Texas. After having a fight with Buck in the last episode, the two made amends as the latter helped Eddie finish packing the Uhaul truck. It was great to see Eddie let Buck know how important he was to him despite them both not handling things well in recent days.
Buck and Eddie’s friendship has been an important part of the show for years and we hope that as Eddie handles things like he needs to in Texas that they will continue to be close. While we’re certain Eddie will be back at some point, it will be strange to see the 118 without him for a bit. But how long will that be? Only time will tell.
Honorable Mentions:
- While talking to Eddie as they searched for Maddie, Buck brought up everything bad that had happened starting with his break-up with Tommy. Does this mean Buck still has lingering feelings over what happened? Considering the cookies he brought Eddie, baking is still in the picture! We’re still holding out hope that he runs into Tommy in the future.
- We loved seeing Hen and Karen come and support Chimney as they searched for Maddie. Their growing bond has been such a joy to witness this season and Hen being there for Chimney in the hospital truly showed the breadth their bond.
- What happened to Buck’s jeep and when did he get a truck?
- Maddie Han. She is the moment.
