Things can never be straightforward in the world of 911, can it? Of course, 911 season 9 episode 4 will see more of the space storyline, and we have to question if Athena will make it back to Earth.
I know there are many people angry with the decision to kill Bobby Nash off. I will say from a viewer's point of view at this point, though, I don’t know if everyone will survive the space storyline because of it. And it’s why I think one of the main characters should have been killed off much sooner in the series. The problem with always having the main characters survive is that we got complacent in the storylines.
Now, Athena is in space, and she’s going out for a space walk to help save the day. She may not make it back.

Athena is the only one who can do this in 911 season 9 episode 4
We have another raw look at grief in the new episode. As it’s clear there’s a problem with the International Space Station, and it means someone needs to go outside to fix it. I have to question why the trained astronaut can’t do this, and I’m not talking about the Apollo 18 astronaut. There is one on the ISS, so why isn’t she going to be the one to get out there?
Why does it have to be Athena? I know Hen says that she would do it in the promo, but why does it have to be either of them? I’m really surprised Kern didn’t jump at the chance to do this, considering he jumped at the chance to open the door to the ISS in the previous episode!
But Athena makes it clear to Hen that out of the two of them, it’s going to be her. She can’t lose anyone else, and it’s that raw look at grief. Athena isn’t thinking about her children in this moment, and it’s a sad element to the story, but she can’t sit back and risk Hen’s life.

Will Athena make it back?
And so, it leads to us having questions about Athena. As she’s outside, the tether gets stuck. Rather than go back to grab the tether and unhook it from whatever it’s stuck on, she decides to unhook herself from the tether. Yeah, that’s a smart idea in space!
I know this is written for drama, but it’s literally the most cliché storyline when it comes to space dramas and space emergencies. Can we think a little more out the box?
