911 just aired its season 8 finale on ABC, and fans are already abuzz over what happened as we capped off a season filled with twists and turns, tragedy and rebirth, and so much more. Unfortunately, it does mean we have to wait for the summer hiatus before watching new episodes.

Don’t worry, though! Even though we don’t know for sure what dates the new episodes will begin to air, we have a good idea of when we should expect it to return.

Yes, the 911 season 8 finale has aired

We already have the episode recapped for you, so if you missed anything, you can check out our thoughts on the episode. But in the meantime, just know it was a culmination of an attempt to build a bridge between a fractured team in the wake of death and begin a rebirth.

Even though we didn’t have everything tied together in a neat little bow, we do know season 9 is coming so we expect to see plenty of arcs come back to focus! Plus, with ABC hinting that there are no plans to see 911 off after season 9, fans can enjoy the summer, assured the series will have plenty more in store for them in the next couple of seasons.

How long is the 911 hiatus?

ABC has not revealed specific dates for the show’s return, however we are likely to see the show return in September to kick off the fall television season for 2025-2026.

The show will continue to air on Thursdays at 8/7c.It has been a steady presence in the Thursday night slot so far and the network has made sure to allow the newest series in the franchise to go off the back of the original in order to lift off.

It will provide a lead-in to the franchise’s third spinoff, 911: Nashville, which will star Chris O’Donnell and Jessica Capshaw. Not much else is known about the series, but it will replace the spot held by another series whose status is up in the air.

We don’t expect to see a crossover between the two shows right off the bat, but maybe one of the OG characters will take a trip to Nashville at some point. Fingers crossed Buck decides to go on a road trip in season 9 since he had a rough season this last go around!

911 has been one of ABC’s highest-rated shows, and with a new season coming, there is plenty to look forward to once it returns in the fall. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for information on 9-1-1’s return to the television scene. We’re looking forward to seeing our 118 family again!

In the meantime, you can watch 911 on Hulu to either catch up on episodes you may have missed or to do a rewatch to enjoy it all over again this summer.

Make sure to keep up with Precinct TV for continuing coverage of the 911 franchise.
