Accused season 2, episode 5 recap: What happened to Margot?
Accused is usually really good at making something difficult to guess. We usually can’t tell what someone is being accused of doing, but this latest episode fell a little flat. Accused season 2, episode 5 opted for a very stereotypical story when it came to an older woman falling for a younger man.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Accused season 2, episode 5.
Margot was fed up with life. She lost her job, and she didn’t feel like there was much joy around her. When she ends up sitting in on a friend’s dance group, she meets the instructor. Yes, he’s handsome, but something feels off about the interaction from the start. I don’t get how nobody sees it right away.
It turns out that the dance instructor is a conman. He works his way into older women’s lives and gets them to give him their life savings and then runs off. However, things take a turn in this episode when he tells Margot that he didn’t take her money after all. He couldn’t do that to her as he enjoys her company. Yeah, okay!
What did Margot do in Accused season 2, episode 5?
I did think that Margot was going to find out that there was a scam and end up just going along with it. However, when she found out that he was a conman, she confronted him. It was after this that my prediction came true. Once she found out that he liked her, she decided to act completely out of character to protect him and give him a chance to escape.
Margot ended up holding up a store to allow the conman to flee. This is what she was put on trial for, and she wasn’t even going to deny it. She was guilty, and she was ready to accept what she did.
What happened to Margot in Accused?
In previous episodes, we’ve seen the people on trial sentenced and that’s it. There was one in the first season where we saw what the psychiatric hold did to people, but other than that, we haven’t seen life after. That was different in Accused season 2, episode 5.
We found out that after sentencing, Margot faced probation and had to work in a soup kitchen. Maybe because of her age and how she was conned as well, she was able to get off with a lighter sentencing.
The whole hour fell flat, though. Why did Connie end up testifying against her friend? Why did she not know her friend better? Jealousy really did rear its ugly head in this episode.
Plus, why did Margot decide to help the conman flee? While he didn’t take her money, he took her friends’ money. Maybe that’s why her friends went up against her. They were betrayed by Margot more than the conman. They were just stupid for paying into the conman’s dreams without consulting a financial advisor.
It’s a shame, because I’m a big supporter of this series. I love when it does things differently and forces us to check our bias. This episode just didn’t work.
Accused airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
