Cobie Smulders stars as a murder suspect in Accused season 2, episode 6 (Preview)

Why do women stay silent about abuse and assault? It’s usually because we know people won’t believe us, or it’s because we’re put on trial as well. It looks like this all comes up in Accused season 2, episode 6.

The new episode sees Cobie Smulders guest star as Val, a single mom who is facing a murder charge. Yes, we get to find out what the charge is in the synopsis, which suggests that there is far more to this. She’s being accused of her husband’s murder, but did she do it? Was this an act of revenge, or has she been framed for it?

This episode is going to include an element of spousal abuse. This is something the first season touched on in an episode, and now we’re seeing a slightly different telling of the same old tale—and a tale that is important in today’s world where more women are speaking up but nothing is still being done!

Val is suspected of murder in Accused season 2, episode 6

The promo makes it clear that Val is on trial for murder. Throughout the promo, we get a look at things that happened when Val was with her ex-husband. He was abusive and made her question reality, but instead of snapping, she got out of the marriage.

However, the marriage didn’t leave her. And it looks like her ex-husband hasn’t completely gone. He may have moved onto another woman, but we all know that these men don’t like it when their victims get away. We also know a cheater doesn’t change its spots, and it looks like the new wife is now receiving all the abuse.

On top of that, the second wife isn’t going to stand up for the first wife. She takes the stand, but will it be to cover for her missing and presumed dead husband? Will it be to say how crazy Val is, or will she get the courage to speak out?

Or is all this in Val’s head and she was the abusive one? I hope the show doesn’t go this route because of how important the topic of abuse is. I already hate the episode with a teenage girl lying about her teacher because those 5% of women affect all of us. We need more on women speaking up and being believed, because yes, this sort of abuse happens.
