The Accused season 2 finale brought us a case that was weird and far too futuristic. Here’s a look inside the events of Accused season 2, episode 8.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from the Accused season 2 finale.

I remember watching the Accused season 1 finale and feeling heartbreak, compassion, and discomfort. And that discomfort was in a good way. It left me questioning what I would do in that situation, and that’s the way the majority of episodes made me feel.

The second season hasn’t been as good, and the Accused season 2 finale brought us a wild episode, not in a good way. It was far too futuristic and weird to really care about anyone involved. And that’s a shame, because Sonequa Martin-Green is a formidable actress.

What did Megan do in Accused season 2, episode 8?

The episode brought us a character that was selfish and ambitious. I don’t mind seeing ambitious women on the screen. In fact, I love seeing women with dreams doing what they can to achieve them. However, they still need to be respectful and kind people, and that’s not something Megan was. It led to me not being all that convinced that Megan should be found innocent.

But did she do anything terrible? After all, it looked like she was trying to give her husband what he needed when she couldn’t, and she did it through a robot.

That wasn’t what her husband, John, actually needed. He needed to be valued in a profession he loved. He was a music artist, but his creativity and passion weren’t valued. Megan lived and thrived in a world where AI took over the music scene, and she refused to see what that was doing to her marriage.

As she found herself growing more and more jealous of the robot she gifted to her husband, she decided to find one thing that would save her marriage. She surprised John by getting the embryos they had frozen implanted. This was without a conversation with John about becoming parents, and John wasn’t having any of it. While he wanted to be a dad, he couldn’t be married to Megan anymore, and so he made it clear that he wanted a divorce. He was done.

In a fit of rage, Megan lashed out with a vase, hitting John over the head. She killed him, and we found her on trial for murder.

Was Megan found guilty in the Accused season 2 finale?

The only witness to the crime was the robot. Now, we should be able to rely on a robot’s narrative, right? It’s a computer, so it should just show us the events that happened. However, Megan was a step ahead of everyone.

She got her sister, who created the robot for her, to manipulate Eve’s memories of the event. She was able to craft a story that Eve malfunctioned and was the one guilty of the crime. While this did get Megan the acquittal that she was after—so, no, she wasn’t found guilty—it was at the expense of her sister’s career. Her sister was all-in with the development of AI, and this proved robots to be unreliable and dangerous.

Megan proved herself to be a consistently selfish person. I feel for babies born to women like Megan. She doesn’t want her twins because she wants to be a mom, and they end up becoming an extension of her; something to manipulate.

We’re also left wondering what this means for the future of Megan and her sister’s relationship. Can her sister stand by Megan after everything that’s happened? I couldn’t!
