After taking a TV season off, Accused is back. The season 2 premiere did not disappoint.

Felicity Huffman played Lorraine, and the Accused season 2 premiere was her story. We knew from the synopsis that she was a psychic medium helping parents connect to their son. It didn’t take long to find out that these parents had a son who had gone missing, and Lorraine called to give information that she could see he was still alive.

It didn’t take long to find out that the mom wasn’t convinced she was a psychic. It was the dad who was, and he continued to hold out on hope. However, the episode took a turn when someone confessed to murdering the boy.

What was Lorraine accused of in Accused season 2?

From the start, it looked like Lorraine was being accused of fraud. Of course, it’s hard to tell with the series because there are times when there’s a twist in what a person is accused of doing.

It wasn’t just fraud, though. The district attorney wasn’t to prosecute her for wasting police time, though. It would need witness testimony, but when Lorraine wouldn’t take the money to tell Frank she had lied, Melissa decided to be the witness needed and the trial went ahead.

Did Lorraine do it in Accused?

We did get a look at the past. There were clear signs that Lorraine was a real psychic medium. One thing Accused has done is given us an honest look at the characters in their past storyline. In this case, if she was a fake medium, we would have had signs of that.

We did hear that Lorraine had managed to find a missing child 17 years earlier. She made it clear that the visions come in pieces. It would take time to build up to the information needed to help. There were six other cases, with four where Lorraine shared that the connection was severed and then the children were found dead.

The detective in charge of the missing case made it clear that Lorraine was a fraud. He had arrested the man he believed had killed their son. However, when a video of the suspects interrogation came up, it was clear that this the confession was fabricated.

Was Lorraine found guilty at the trial?

Lorraine took the stand and shared a story of when her brother was in Vietnam and presumed dead, only to end up being in a prisoner of war camp and returned home. The district attorney pushed on the idea that she felt needed because her own family.

In the end, Lorraine’s lawyer made it clear that this wasn’t about whether they thought she was a fraud or not. It was about whether they believed she knowingly misled the family.

In the end, they find her not guilty.

The Accused season 2 premiere ended with Frank passing his son’s baseball cap to Lorraine. Throughout all of this, he believed that she was telling the truth, and with that there was hope that his son would be found.

Something that I love is that Ray was on Lorraine’s side the whole time. He had seen Lorraine go through this on more than one occasion based on statements said. He’d seen what this had done to her in the past, and didn’t want her to go through it again. And yet, she did. And he was there for her when she needed him. So cute.
