If you caught the recent Boston Blue teaser, you may have seen a fan favorite character from Blue Bloods appear! It was previously reported Len Cariou would be making an appearance on the next new episode of the spinoff series starring Donnie Wahlberg. Now we have our first glimpse of Henry Reagan joining his grandson, Danny, and great-grandson, Sean, in Boston.
The trailer showed Henry meeting Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her mother, Mae (Gloria Reuben), in a hospital corridor as the former police chief asked, “What do we got?” Danny quips to a delighted Lena that the phrase he uses came from Henry. While he won’t be appearing in the Feb. 27 episode when the show premieres, he will be in episode 13, which is scheduled to air in April 2026.
In the teaser trailer, we see the aftermath of what happened when it appeared that Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) went to confront the man who had killed his father, Ben, years before in the midseason fall finale. When Danny, Sean, and Danny’s Boston detective partner Lena went to find Jonah, they discovered the man was dead, and Jonah was covered in blood.
Danny decides to stay in Boston after having been offered a job at the Boston Police Department, likely in response to wanting to help the Silvers clear Jonah’s name.
Co-creator Brandon Sonnier described to TVLine the episode as being “very emotional” and will carve a path for closure in the past and new directions for the characters to move forward in the future.
So far, it’s not clear what will bring Henry to Boston, although he could be coming to talk to Danny about his decision to move. If he gets involved in helping with a case, then it could give Henry a chance to see if the move is right for Danny.
While we don’t know about the episode Henry will appear in yet, we do have a synopsis for the midseason premiere episode, titled “Hard Truths.” In the episode, we will see Jonah struggle with the aftermath of confronting the man responsible for his father’s death, and the family will learn “painful truths that could change everything.”
As this is all happening, Danny and Lena will be involved in what is deemed a high-stakes case that involves plenty of secrets and forges new alliances. From the looks of things, this will be an exciting episode to get us ready for the rest of the season.
