Carlos was right not to listen to Sam in 911: Lone Star
We got more time with Carlos in 911: Lone Star, and not just to step in and bring lunch or to babysit. He was working a case, while dealing with his own personal life.
Caution: There are SPOILERS for 911: Lone Star season 5, episode 5 in this post.
The new episode opened with TK and Carlos in marriage counselling. TK shared that he felt like there was a distance growing, and that comes down to Carlos spending all his time looking into his dad’s murder. TK understands why Carlos wants to figure this out, but he also wants his husband back.
With their one-year anniversary around the corner, it’s clear that Carlos has completely forgotten. He asks Sam for his thoughts on some anniversary gift ideas, and that’s when Sam proves that far too many women accept a low bar. I’m so glad Carlos wants to be a better husband than him.
Sam is not the husband to strive to be in 911: Lone Star
Sam lays out the full flower order he got his wife on their first anniversary. As first anniversary gift ideas go, it was beautiful, but then the reason Sam knows the order still comes up. It’s the exact order he gets his wife for every single occasion.
Carlos points out that Sam is phoning it in, but Sam shares it’s not like that. Sam has a lot of work on his mind, and his wife gets it.
I would love to hear the wife’s perspective because I can guarantee that is not the case. His wife just has a low bar and she’s settling for him. There may be other reasons she’s with him, but she likely views him as lazy and unthoughtful when it comes to gift ideas.
Fortunately, Carlos knows TK better. If Carlos did something like this time and time again, they would be divorced faster than you could say the world divorce.
Carlos comes up with the most thoughtful gift in 911: Lone Star
The episode ends with TK and Carlos exchanging gifts. TK’s is thoughtful and connects to something Carlos mentioned during therapy. He bought a guitar and some lessons so that they can learn together.
Carlos didn’t think his gift was great after that, but it’s actually one of the most thoughtful gifts in the world. It’s just an empty box, but every night, Carlos will put everything to do with work in that box. He will forget about it all, showing that he was listening to TK in therapy and that he wants their marriage to work out.
Just being heard and being loved is often the best gift. Carlos wins, and he did the right thing not listening to Sam.
