The second season of Wild Cards has come to an end in the United States, and naturally, all eyes are on whether it will be renewed or not. There is good news from the neighbors to the north, but what about in the U.S.?
This is one of those shows that is a little bit trickier for renewals. It's not solely up to The CW to renew the series. As a joint venture with the Canadians, it needs to be up to both of the networks. That arguably should have meant that both Canada and the U.S. agreed to the renewal, but it looks like CBC is willing to take on the costs of production if The CW doesn't want to continue with the series.
CBC renews Wild Cards for two more seasons
Wild Cards season 3 is officially happening, but that's not all. According to TVLine, CBC has also renewed the series for a fourth season. This hasn't been labeled as a final season, but this can sometimes happen as a way to offer time for closure.
That being said, CBC is the public broadcaster, and that can be a little more helpful when it comes to costs. It was this network that saved Murdoch Mysteries when it was getting ready to end with its fifth season — it's now just finished its 18th season!

The CW hasn't yet renewed the show
While CBC has renewed it, The CW hasn't confirmed anything just yet. It's possible that the network wanted to see how the finale performed first. After all, the series was released a little bit earlier in Canada than in the United States.
It's been almost a month at this point, though. A decision should have been made by now. So, the renewal is likely going to come down to the cost expectations. I do think with CBC agreeing to another two seasons that we'll get them on The CW as well. Since Nexstar took over, the network has focused more on acquisitions rather than creating its own shows, but the network is stillin debt and needs to work harder to get out of it.
As of right now, the fate is up in the air. We'll be sure to keep an eye on The CW's decisions about Wild Cards.
