Network TV is slowly getting back to some normalcy after the holiday break. The bad news is that we won’t get a new episode of Matlock tonight, Thursday, Jan. 2.
CBS is still bringing us reruns. This seems bad at first, but it’s not surprising when you consider the linear ratings can still take a hit so soon after the New Year celebration. It’s also not a bad thing when you consider what the break now means—there won’t be as many weeks off as we run through to May.
In some good news, CBS is bringing us some reruns of Matlock. We won’t just get one episode. We’ll get two!
Matlock takes over Thursday night on CBS tonight
After initially starting with reruns of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts, CBS will then go into a night of Matlock reruns. This does seem worrying for Elsbeth. It suggests that the network isn’t all that secure in Elsbeth season 2, especially since Matlock has already scored a renewal.
However, it’s great news for Matlock fans. We’ll start with episode 4, titled “The Rabbit and The Hawk.” Olympia needs Matty’s help to get closer to their current client. It turns out that the man has lost his wife, and he is suing for wrongful death. Olympia knows that Matty has a better chance in getting closer to him believing the story she has shared about her being a widow as well.
After that, there’s a rerun of episode 5, “Claws.” The team finds their class-action lawsuit faces difficulties. The lawsuit is against prisons, but the lead plaintiff relapses on drugs and is held up on charges. This could lead to the entire lawsuit going down in flames, but Olympia and Matty won’t want that to happen!
When will Matlock return with new episodes?
The series is still on a break for most of January. We’ll get new episodes on Thursday, Jan. 30, with the show returning at the usual time of 9/8c. We’ll get new episodes of Elsbeth straight afterward.
There isn’t much available about the new episode just yet. One thing we will find out is who Olympia’s husband slept with. Matty found herself caught in the middle of the drama as Julian confessed to cheating, breaking Olympia’s heart.
Now that Olympia knows what caused the rift in her marriage, she realizes that she wants to know who caused it. She needs to find out who the other woman was, and she turns to Matty for help with that. Of course, with Olympia leaning on Matty more, it means they are both more likely to become friends. This is going to make Matty’s job and the feeling of betrayal by Olympia much harder.
Matlock returns with new episodes on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up on the series with Paramount+.
