We finally have a date for when Y: Marshals comes to CBS and brings one of television’s biggest cable franchises to network TV!

In their announcement of their mid-season calendar, CBS confirmed the series will debut on a plum spot at 8/7c Sunday, March 1, 2026. That’s a good place for a show that’s ready to take this franchise in a new direction!

One of the biggest success stories in recent television history has been Yellowstone. Created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner, the drama about the Dutton clan and their fight for power running a Montana ranch was an instant sensation when it debuted on the Paramount Network in 2018.

The series seemed like the type of series that could run forever, but ended after five seasons in 2025 amid an infamous falling out between Costner and Sheridan, with Costner leaving the show and his John Dutton character killed off. The show still spawned several spinoffs, such as 1883, 1923 and plans for more to come.

Among those is Y: Marshals, which is interesting as it’s the first installment of the franchise airing on network TV rather than Paramount+. The series has Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, now a member of the U.S. Marshals.

What to expect from Y: Marshals?

Fans of Yellowstone enjoyed Kayce Dutton, a former Navy SEAL who had a strained relationship with his father John. Kayce lived on a local Indian reservation before reuniting with his family, trying to keep out of their inner battles. He later joined the Livestock Committee and became its commissioner.

The Yellowstone series finale had Kayce inheriting the Dutton ranch only to sell it to the Broken Rock Reservation and embark on a new life for himself. That leads to Y: Marshals as Kayce joins a special unit of the Montana branch of the U.S. Marshals, investigating various crimes.

Also in the cast are Arielle Kebbel, Logan Marshall-Green and Gil Birmingham. Kebbel talked to People Magazine on how it felt working with Grimes for this project.

“Honestly, he's such a bad—. Getting to work with him out on these rescue missions and we're all carrying M4s and these huge rifles and we're doing these big stunts. It's so cool to work alongside him, but also see him in action, because it really is a totally different side to his character.”

All we have so far is a short teaser showing Kayce on horseback doing his job. The show will have a good start on Sundays as it’s premiering after the NFL season and just before March Madness so likely will get heavy promotion from the network to get more eyes on it. The Yellowstone fandom will no doubt be tuning in and the earlier start time gives it more room to build an audience.

It’s still a few months off but with this prime spot, Y: Marshals is ready to ride and expand the Yellowstone universe even more!
