As we suspected a few weeks back, it’s finally been confirmed. There is another Chicago PD break in the schedule. The good news is that this is the last break of the season.
Chicago PD season 12, episode 20 will not air until Wednesday, May 7. While this is disappointing, it will mean that when the series returns, we get a string of new episodes. This also means we can definitely tell when the Chicago PD season 12 finale will air.
Why is Chicago PD taking another break in the NBC schedule?
It’s not just Chicago PD affected on Wednesday, April 30. The entire One Chicago line-up will be affected, with both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire also on a break. All three shows will air reruns throughout the night, as is usually the case with these breaks.
The break is purely for scheduling purposes at this point. There are three episodes left, but there are four weeks to the preferred finale date. We’ll get the Chicago PD season 12 finale on Wednesday, May 21 based on this break, which is around the same time as NBC has wrapped up the show in the past.

The good news is that Chicago PD season 12, episode 20 will air a week later, on Wednesday, May 7. It will air at the usual time of 10/9c on NBC.

At the time of writing this, NBC has still not renewed Chicago PD for a 13th season. We’re pretty sure that this show is going to be renewed, but it would be good to have the confirmation by now! It’s not usual for NBC to wait so long for this trio of shows.
Chicago PD will return with new episodes on Wednesday, May 7 at 10/9c on NBC.
