Whenever there’s news that shows are being canceled, there is a look at whether they could be saved. FBI: International is canceled after four seasons by CBS, but could NBC take over the airing of it?

CBS made the decision on Tuesday, March 4 to cancel the FBI spin-off. It wasn’t the only cancellation, either. FBI: Most Wanted is also coming to an end, although there is still hope that the new spin-off FBI: CIA will get the go ahead.

While there is no official reasoning behind the cancellation, it’s likely a financial one. However, NBC taking over the show could work in its favor.

FBI: International is a Universal Studios production

This is one of those licensed shows for CBS, which causes some financial issues for the network. That wouldn’t be the case for NBC, and it’s one of the reasons why NBC would be the network to turn to for saving the series. FBI: International is produced by Universal TV, which is within the NBCUniversal company.

So, not only would NBC get a say over the money put into the show, it would also gain all the money from the production of it. There is much more control, so it makes more sense for NBC to run with it.

It’s also a Dick Wolf series. FBI: International could join with the Law & Order shows to make a full Dick Wolf Thursday night. While I love Found being on Thursdays, that series could move to another night to allow for this—because I need that series renewed!

NBC has saved a CBS show before

This wouldn’t be the first CBS show saved by NBC. However, NBC doesn’t have a good track record when saving a series. It did save Magnum PI after that series was canceled by CBS. However, the series only lasted one more season over on NBC due to some bad scheduling decisions and the cast options coming to an end as the writer’s strike and actor’s strike started in 2023.

If NBC was to save FBI: International, we’d need the show to be treated better. With the experience of Magnum PI, it could lead to NBC deciding not to save it.

To be honest, the NBC schedule is already packed. It has renewed a few shows already, and there are a few like Law & Orderand the One Chicago franchise that we’re expecting to be renewed. Is there space in the schedule? That’s debatable.

FBI: International currently airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
