Could NBC save FBI: Most Wanted?

FBI: Most Wanted has been canceled by CBS, but could NBC save the day?
“Aquarium Drinker” – When a detective is brutally murdered, the Fugitive Task Force investigates a string of gruesome killings. Meanwhile, Remy and Abby’s (Susan Misner) relationship grows stronger, on the sixth season premiere of FBI: MOST WANTED, Tuesday, Oct. 15 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).

It has been terrible news for FBI fans this week. FBI: Most Wanted was one of two shows in the franchise canceled. Now eyes are on whether it could be saved.

Out of all the networks, NBC makes the most sense as a network to save FBI: Most Wanted. Is it likely, though? Is there even room in the NBC schedule?

Why NBC could save FBI: Most Wanted

A big issue for CBS with this series is that it’s licensed. This isn’t a CBS TV Studios series. It’s not even a Paramount TV Studios series. It’s Universal that is behind this one, and that network is connected to NBCUniversal. So, it makes the most sense for NBC to step in and save the show. There would be no need for licensing agreements and financial negotiations to make the series viable.

Plus, NBC is the home of other Dick Wolf shows. It’s the home of both the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises. It makes sense to keep shows from the same company in one place, right?

Of course, FBI is still on CBS, and there are still talks of this CIA spin-off. It would make it a little confusing for other FBI shows to be on NBC, but it could work.

How about Peacock saving FBI: Most Wanted?

Another option would be for FBI: Most Wanted to be saved by Peacock. This is where Law & Order: Organized Crime has moved to, and it’s still owned by NBCUniversal. Most Wanted does have a more adult feel to it, and it would allow for grittier cases for the Fugitive Task Force on a streaming platform.

Again, there’s still the issue that FBI is on CBS. We’d have something similar to how 911 moved over to ABC while 911: Lone Star remained on FOX. It works, but it can be a little confusing at first.

NBC probably won’t save either of the FBI shows

FBI: Most Wanted wasn’t the only series canceled. FBI: International also faced the same fate. If we’re honest, we can’t see NBC saving either of the shows. While NBC did save Magnum PI with good intentions, things didn’t work out that great for the series. Due to bad scheduling options and then cast options coming up, the series was still canceled fairly abruptly and not given the chance it could have. Do we want to see that happen to FBI: Most Wanted as well?

Plus, the NBC schedule is pretty full. This network hasn’t made a lot of renewal decisions just yet, and we’re expecting to see the One Chicago trio and the Law & Order duo to be renewed. There will be new shows to arrive in the 2025–2026 TV season, so there may not be space for FBI: Most Wanted.

FBI: Most Wanted currently airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS.
