The Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 finale answered plenty of questions about Elias Voit and where he stands, while also introducing us to his “Disciple” at last. How did the events of the season lead up to the final showdown?
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for the Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 finale.
Throughout the season, the team was determined to figure out who the Disciple was as they reignited the network that Voit had started. While Voit struggled with getting his memories back and trying to determine who he was, it was a race to try to beat the new network of serial killers who always seemed to be one step ahead.

Once they determined that the Disciple was reigniting the network and trying to get to Voit, the team made the unfortunate discovery that someone had shot everyone in the hospital before abducting Voit and Dr. Ochoa. At first, they weren’t sure if she was involved, but later they concluded she had nothing to do with the abduction and was not working with the Disciple.
Having looked back through an old case that would connect Voit with Rebecca and Tara, they realized the Maria Jones case is what led to a suspect. Maria had been the one Cyrus killed and framed someone else for the murder. The police had gone to talk to Cyrus as a suspect, but a young woman had told them he was not home.
Her name was supposedly Tessa, but no one could find information on her. However, Penelope kept looking and they learned her name was Constance, a young woman who had gone missing and soon after, her parents died in a fire.

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 ended with us learning more about the Disciple and her plans
Voit didn’t know Tessa existed since he had left by the time Cyrus met Tessa in a bar before abducting her and holding her captive. When Voit killed Cyrus, Tessa felt that he had set her free. Now, she wanted to bring Sicarius back by having him kill again.
However, when she attempted to have one of her men, who had posed as an orderly in the hospital, kill Dr. Ochoa, Voit stopped him and beat him til he died. In order to gain her trust, Voit made it look like he was on her side by shooting at Dr. Ochoa while she played dead.
The BAU was able to find them, with JJ talking Voit down from him begging her to shoot him. She was confident he wouldn’t hurt her and was able to take his weapon.
Outside, Emily was able to talk Constance down and before she could shoot, Luke apprehended her. In addition to having saved his doctor’s life, Voit had also made it possible for Garcia to tap in and sabotage his network by releasing signals for the rest of the devices that had been taken by various unsubs.

In the end, Voit told Dave he wanted to confess and not to make anymore deals. Even though it appeared that Voit had the capacity to be a changed person, he knew deep down that inside, there was still a killer and he didn’t want to play games anymore.
So is this finally the end of Voit? He is going to a supermax prison and while traveling in the prison van, he did fantasize about killing one of the prisoners while the others egged him on. However, he managed to stay cool as the episode came to an end. But somewhere in there lies a darkness that even with a conscience, can he keep that at bay?
This was an interesting season that managed to weave in many moving parts that helped tie everything together. Even though it started off with a devastating loss, we also saw hope and joy when Tara survived her shooting and asked Rebecca to marry her. There is a lot that could be covered and hints at how the next season could be centered around Tara now that we have seen the previous seasons focus on Rossi, Prentiss, and JJ.
In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Erica Messer previewed that we may not have seen the last of Voit, but that the next season of Criminal Minds: Evolution will take place a year after this season’s events, and we will meet a new unsub. Fans are looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series will pan out given how things have played out so far for the team.
