Does the dog die in Countdown season 1, episode 11?

Don't you just hate it when TV shows bring a dog into the story?

I hate it when there’s a dog in a movie or a TV series. I’m constantly worried about the dog dying, and that’s certainly the case with Countdown season 1, episode 11.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Countdown season 1, episode 11.

Unless the death of an animal helps the plot, such as All Dogs Go to Heaven and yes, even Marley and Me, there’s no need to kill one on the screen. Of course, with the way the Countdown episode 11 storyline was going, it was clear that the dog was likely to be harmed in some way.

“Todd” had no love or care for the animal. It was his wife’s dog, and he made that clear from the beginning. So, what would he do to the pet in the end?

‘Todd’ learns his wife is having an affair in Countdown season 1, episode 11

As the 2023 storyline unfolds, we learn that “Todd’s” wife is having an affair with his coworker, the one guy he trusted to talk to. Naturally, he’s angry when he finds out, but he can’t quite bring himself to hurt either of them. He doesn’t even reveal himself when he catches them.

Instead, he takes his wife’s dog, driving it out to the middle of nowhere. Would he end up doing the unthinkable? Well, he certainly puts his gun together, loading a couple of bullets, to show that he wants to. Would he have a change of heart considering his wife’s actions were not the dog’s fault?

We don’t quite know what happens to the dog in Countdown

The episode ends with “Todd” letting the dog out of his carrier, and he screams at it to run. It’s clear that he wants to use the dog to get revenge on his wife. Rather than killing her, he wants her to hurt the way he does.

So, the dog runs away, and then we watch as “Todd” gets his rifle ready. We know from earlier in the episode that he’s a good shot, hitting a deer with his first shot. This is his skill, and it’s not unbelievable to think that he’ll be able to hit the dog that’s running away from him.

However, we don’t hear a gunshot as the credits roll. It is possible that he’s decided to let the dog live, albeit in the wild alone. Of course, this could be more dangerous for the dog, as it’s out of its home, having to survive in a terrain with other wild animals. We will have to wait until Countdown season 1, episode 12 to get the details about the events.

If the dog died, we’re sure to know about it, and I’m leaning to the side that “Todd” shot and killed the dog to hurt his wife.

Countdown airs on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
