Grosse Pointe Garden Society wants us to think Doug is Quiche right now, but I don’t buy it at all. I’m sure those clues are red herrings.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 4.
There are plenty of theories about who Quiche is. There’s no doubt that Doug has been on our minds. We haven’t seen him in the post-murder scenes, and it’s clear that he and Alice aren’t necessarily on the best of terms right now.
Episode 4 mended their marriage in the present day storyline. In the future, we see that things are rocky again, and it’s all thanks to Brett. He put in Alice’s writing sample for a job in New York and she got the offer. Rather than initially talk to her about it, Doug went off and got drunk, and it led to a fight between Brett and Doug.
Sure, there are signs that Doug is Quiche. There are the shoes and the fact that the cops are looking for him, but there is something that makes it clear to me that Doug can’t be Quiche.
Alice isn’t upset enough for Doug to be Quiche in Grosse Pointe Garden Society
It would take a heartless monster not to be upset over the murder of a spouse. Even if you’re on temporary bad terms with that spouse, there is still some love there. So, the way Alice is reacting over Quiche means that it can’t be Doug. She would be heartbroken, especially since the two weren’t on terrible terms.
Just look at the hours leading up to the gala. Yes, there was some animosity and hurt over the offer letter, but Alice and Doug were on good terms before that.
The show wants us to believe that Brett grabbed a broken piece of glass and stabbed Doug. Maybe that happened, but probably not to kill. It would explain Doug not being around right now, but Alice isn’t too broken up about her husband potentially being dead.

Doug has a history of walking off after a fight
Doug being missing could be easily explained. We’ve already seen that he will walk away and ghost Alice instead of talk about things. After being accused of murdering Molly, he stormed off and didn’t talk until he went back to the house for a few things. Even then, they didn’t really talk.
It took Alice extending an olive branch for him to start talking to her. It took Alice supporting his artistic talents for him to open up to her again. This is a huge personality flaw, but it doesn’t make him the victim of a murder. Instead, it helps to show that his disappearance in the post-gala timeline isn’t because he’s dead.
He and Brett got into a huge fight. Alice likely didn’t say what he needed to hear about a move to New York, and that likely led to him going off. He just can’t be found right now, but he’s not dead under all the flowers.
