Could Eric Dane return in Countdown season 2?

Countdown hasn't been renewed yet and we don't know how season 1 will end, but is there a way Eric Dane could come back?

Eric Dane revealed his devastating diagnosis just head of the Countdown series premiere. The Grey’s Anatomy star has been diagnosed with ALS, and he’s updated fans on the development of the disease, and this has led to questions about whether he can continue his work as an actor.

Countdown season 2 hasn’t been confirmed yet by Prime Video. Nor do we know how the ending will work for Dane’s character Nathan Blythe. This show has already delivered one shocking death, but could it end with the loss of the leader of the task force? Out of all the characters with lives on the line, Jensen Ackles’s Mark Meachum is the one already with a debilitating illness.

However, questions have come up about Dane being involved. Things look great for Blythe should there be a Countdown season 2, but it all depends on Dane.

Derek Haas wants more Eric Dane in Countdown

Something that sounds good for the character is that Haas wants more of Dane on the series, according to Collider. This would suggest that the task force’s leader will be alive by the end of the first season.

“My thought is I will take any Eric Dane that I can get. I absolutely adore him, and I adore the character. If he says, ‘I am up for X, I will make X happen.’ I love him and it’s going to be up to him. The ball’s going to be in Eric’s court, and I will take anything that he wants [to do].”

So, it really depends on whether Dane can manage it. He has been doing press for the series, which suggests that he wants to keep going for as long as he can. However, ALS is one of those conditions that can be unpredictable in how it progresses.

Haas has made it clear that if Dane wants to do more, then the door is open for him. He wants Dane to be part of Countdown season 2, but the ball is completely in his court.

What could happen to Nathan Blythe in Countdown season 2?

Up to this point of Countdown, we’ve seen how Nathan Blythe has continued to keep the task force running. There are clearly people working against him, but he needs to figure out whether those people are being problematic or if they are part of the bigger conspiracy.

That’s the thing; there is a huge conspiracy going, and that conspiracy involves a nuclear attack that would be the size of Chernobyl. Is it possible that Blythe could end up putting his life on the line to protect the American people? I would say that he’d be the one staying out of the firing line as he is usually dealing with the political side of the task force, but that could change as the situation gets darker and more difficult.

We would assume that the task force would be disbanded at the end of season 1, with the nuclear issue taken care of. However, there could be a new problem that arises, or maybe the task force has worked together so well that Blythe manages to push through a permanent team in Countdown season 2.

Countdown airs on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
