Was the explosion really a prisoner escape in The Hunting Party?

The Hunting Party season 1, episode 2 made it clear that the explosion wasn't an accident. Was it a prisoner escape, though?

During The Hunting Party season 1, episode 2, Hassani told Bex about the C4 found in the rubble. Does this really mean the explosion was a planned prisoner escape?

Caution: This post contains some SPOILERS for The Hunting Party season 1, episode 2

While the explosion was initially explained as a gas explosion, Hassani has his doubts. He found out that there was C4 down in the rubble, and he shared that information with Bex in the latest episode.

Of course, everyone who knows about this now things that it was some sort of prisoner escape. Morales shared that there was a firewall breach and that led to Odell getting information about the explosion before it was going to happen. Did he know that someone was trying to break out prisoners, or is it possible that there’s something else going on?

Did the agency in charge decide to get rid of The Pit in The Hunting Party?

Part of me wonders whether this was a prison break. Is it possible that we’re looking at this in the wrong way? Could it actually be whoever is in charge of The Pit deciding that it’s time to get rid of the problem.

There’s only so long that something like this can remain a secret. If the wrong people found out about The Pit, it could cause a government nightmare. So, there’s a chance that with the wrong people finding out that whoever is in charge of the whole thing decided that it was time to get rid of the entire thing.

Now the problem is that a lot of the inmates couldn’t just go back to any prison. Some of them were said to be executed, and others were presumed killed. So, it raises far too many questions to suddenly say “we lied.”

Instead, it makes more sense to create an explosion. Yes, this would bring up some questions. There are certainly many questions being asked, but it’s easier to cover this up than it is to cover up presumed dead inmates coming back to life.

Odell would have found out there was a planned demolition

It’s clear that someone with working knowledge of The Pit was able to get in. They were able to breach the firewall, and someone would have needed to know that was there to breach. This furthers the idea that this wasn’t necessarily a prison break and more of a way to destroy the whole place.

It would then make sense for Odell to get information about it in The Hunting Party. It makes sense that he got information and some time to get out of the way for the demolition to take place. The fewer people who knew, the better. It wouldn’t surprise me if some government agency decided that the deaths of the few working and surviving in The Pit were worth the removal of the whole thing. However, killing Odell could have been an issue, especially if he had some information about The Pit somewhere—I get that he is a man with secrets and information about people he can use later.

I just think it’s too obvious that he was involved in a prison break. To view it as a way to shut down the whole system makes a lot more sense.
