What happens when an online conspiracy theory community gets involved in a case? We’re about to find out in FBI season 7, episode 7.
Maggie and the rest of the New York Field Office are used to people not always trusting the cops. Sometimes that’s for good reason, but there are also times that the lack of trust comes from disinformation.
It looks like there are issues due to the latter in the newest episode. This means war is coming, and the FBI will need to figure out how to stop it before it all gets out of hand.
What’s the case in FBI season 7, episode 7?
The whole situation kicks off when there’s a park ranger found dead on Governor’s Island. Naturally, the NY Field Office is called in to investigate, and that leads to a much bigger problem.
As the promo shows, there are protests happening. The problem with a lot of protests is that they end up violent. We’ve seen it in real life. Real peaceful protests involved sitting down or just walking down the street. Too many situations are turning into a riot or insurrection, and that’s what the situation in the new episode threatens to turn into.
It turns out that the murder of the park ranger is just one of a string of crimes. Everything leads back to the FBI’s toughest situation yet: an online conspiracy theory community.
Conspiracy theorists can be dangerous, and we’ve seen FBI and other similar shows tackle them in the past. Criminal Minds: Evolution had a great segment on the difference between a conspiracy and a conspiracy theory. However, shows tend to keep the conspiracy theorists to a smaller level. This time, we’re seeing it on a larger scale. What happens when you get the internet together and everyone aligns in one place?
