FBI season 8, episode 13 was missing one member of the team, but it still managed to capture the essence of the FBI agents at their finest during a hostage situation. The episode focused on the abduction of a basketball team manager’s son and how it culminated in Jubal taking on a personal touch to the story.

When the show began, we saw a young man named Landon Gibney and his friend, Ricky Celis, go to steal some ketamine from a drug dealer. While they did get roughed up, they were able to escape and split up to meet at Landon’s home. However, Landon failed to return home, and a ransom call came in, demanding the release of an inmate that Stan Gibney apparently had a hand in being convicted of a crime.

An old murder case is tied to an ongoing hostage situation on FBI

It would turn out that Ricky was the one who was abducted, not Landon, but they did learn the inmate in question was named Eric Atwood. Eric Atwood was in prison for the murder of a woman named Jenny, who disappeared from the restaurant where they worked together. She was later found stabbed to death. Stan Gibney had been contracted to build on a property where Jenny was found, and he had lobbied hard for justice to come quickly.

One of his frequent visitors, Sean Lewis, was a dishwasher at that time who had been part of the Big Brother program and was mentored by Eric. Sean believed that Eric was innocent and had taken a hostage to get his upcoming execution overturned. Even though the team was able to find Ricky alive, they figured out that he was still going after Stan Gibney.

Sean took the basketball team and Stan hostage in the locker room at the stadium where the game was to be held. His brother was part of his crew and had been shot, leading to his demanding a doctor. OA went in undercover but realized his wound was too severe and he needed a hospital.

One of the basketball players, Cam Roberts, offered to give him prescription medication, but it was a ruse to try to pull a weapon on Sean. He had a gun due to the frequent threats the team received whenever they lost a game. Unfortunately, this led to Cam losing his life, and Sean escaped with Stan.

Eva had gone to the prison to speak with Eric, who had no idea Sean was doing what he had done. She calls to have Eric speak with Sean through Jubal’s phone. Eric tells Sean he was, in fact, guilty and gets him to stand down so that the team can arrest him.

Jubal tries to help Sean the best way he can to end the hostage situation

Stan was rescued, and after everything was said and done, Jubal asked Stan to consider visiting Sean one day so he could see a way to move forward. While Stan didn’t think he was ready for something like that, he did take in what Jubal suggested.

Overall, this episode was pretty fast-paced, and there was a lot of action that happened over the course of the hour. While we don’t know exactly if Sean’s brother got help in time, it did show that there are always questions left unanswered even after a case is solved.

Jubal seemed particularly affected by Sean’s story, knowing what it’s like to feel like you had no one in your corner. Despite what Sean did, he still wanted to make sure he got help and support, even if it came from an unlikely source.

While Maggie Bell didn’t appear in the episode, she will be in Season 8, episode 14, which will feature her sister, Erin, making a reappearance.

FBI airs Mondays on CBS at 9/8c.
