Are we getting closer to finding out who Quiche is in Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 4? Take a look at the events from “Force of Nature.”
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 4.
Birdie tried to find her place in the garden society during the new episode, while Doug found something in the mail in the pre-gala storyline. There was plenty happening for each of main characters, and not all of it was a good thing.
Birdie tries to find a place in Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1, episode 4
The episode starts with Birdie meeting with her parole officer. She shares how she isn’t quite fitting into the gardening club. This doesn’t make a lot of sense considering she has made some friends there, but she definitely doesn’t enjoy getting her hands dirty. She does, however, find a way to prove she has something. When everyone learns a rival gardening club has stolen some plans, Birdie goes to that club to steal an item that Joel can dust for prints — it turns out that her son was the one broke into the gardening club and his friends spilled White Claw all over the plans.
Look, stealing something to prove someone else has committed a crime is still a crime. However, this is Joel she’s gone to see, and Joel is not exactly going to arrest her. There’s chemistry between them, and we know in the present day, they are hooking up.
Birdie’s storyline is actually quite intriguing. She’s done with being the joke of the group, and she wants to prove that she can do something better.

What did Doug find in the mail in Grosse Pointe Garden Society?
During the past storyline, Doug is ghosting Alice. He’s angry, and you can’t really blame him considering the way Alice handled the “did you shoot my dog” storyline? To make matters worse, the two are getting evicted for non-payment of rent. Alice needs to find a job, but then, so does Doug, right? They both need to make sacrifices at this point. That’s real marriage.
Seeing Alice is fighting for her marriage is huge. She only sees Brett as a friend at this point, which Brett isn’t happy about, and she wants to make things work with her husband. She even goes to see her mother-in-law for help, despite it being clear that the two haven’t gotten along in the past. Evil mother-in-laws are a tired trope, so I’m glad to see Grosse Pointe Garden Society put a twist on this. Doug’s mom has decided that while she doesn’t like Alice, she can’t argue what her son likes.
When Alice sees Doug’s latest pieces of art, she decides to surprise him with them selling. She makes it clear that she chooses a life with him rather than her writing opportunities in New York.
In the present day (I know, the show says the past is the present day, but I can’t view it that way when we’re trying to figure out who they’ve killed, sorry!), Doug finds something in a brown envelope on the counter. Doug takes the paperwork and leaves to get drunk. It looks like they could be divorce papers, but are they?
They’re not divorce papers, though. Doug has found that she got a job offer in New York, and it turns out that Brett sent her writing sample in. I get that Brett thought he was doing a good thing, but he got in the middle of Doug and Alice’s marriage, and I can’t stand for that. It does lead to an ultimatum, Doug or Brett.

Catherine realizes everyone knows about her affair
It’s probably a good thing that Catherine told Tucker about the affair with Gary. Everyone in town knows about it, and they’re all talking about it. She even gets kicked off the PTA because the gossip about her is a distraction. As someone who has been the victim spouse in an affair, I have zero sympathy for Catherine at this point. You reap what you sow, which is quite apt for this series!
Catherine is upset that so many people gossip. As Birdie points out, money makes people awful. I do enjoy seeing how this friendships is growing between them. They didn’t look like they would be friends to start this series off. Birdie’s words do help Catherine figure out a way to keep her position in the PTA by proving that everyone has some gossip in their lives. There are shoplifters, pill poppers, and fraudsters in the PTA, and owning mistakes is important.
I don’t like Catherine because of what she did, but she does have a point. Who hasn’t done something they haven’t regretted? Well, just because I agree with that, it doesn’t mean I like Catherine’s character.
The only thing that upsets me is that Catherine’s daughter is pulled into this, although I will say that Catherine is way too hypercritical about coloring inside the lines. I guess that’s part of her control needs. Catherine will need to talk to her daughter, though, as her daughter is struggling as she realizes what is going on between her parents. All those drawings screwed up make it clear that she knows her family is falling apart, and that’s heartbreaking.
Catherine does learn to step back a little bit. It’s not that her family is falling apart; it’s that she wants to get the drawing perfect. That moment as Catherine realizes what she's done could have been so much more meaningful, but Gary's wife walks in. She hasn't heard from Gary in a few days, and she's worried. We know Gary has been taken, but where is he?

The series itself is moving at a fast pace. We getting a few clues here and there about what happened at the gala, but we’re still not getting all the answers that we need. At least we do get the name the cop was coming to speak with Brett about: Doug Morris.
You see, there was a fight that broke out the night of the gala between Doug and Brett. We see Brett reach for a piece of broken glass, and we learn that Doug is missing right now. I would have thought Alice would be more torn up if Doug is Quiche, though. I suspect that this is a red herring, although the shoes did match!
