High Potential fans have been dazzled by Morgan Gillory, played by actress Kaitlin Olson, since the jump. The single mom of three started the series as a cleaning lady for the L.A.P.D. While cleaning and busting a move one night, she knocked over some papers. As she fixed them, she saw something that the detectives had missed.
Of course, she was called into the office to explain herself. When Morgan told the detectives about her IQ of 160 and ability to recall and retain all sorts of crazy facts, she was hired as a consultant by Captain Soto, played by Judy Reyes. At first, some were skeptical of Morgan's talents, including her partner, Adam Karadec. But soon she was closing cases and impressing Soto.
However, there was one time when Morgan's brainiac tendencies seemed to falter. Soto was re-opening a cold case, and even though the murder was notorious, Morgan drew a blank. Apparently, she was chasing a toddler around and taking care of a baby when the Bucket Lane Murder happened. How could Morgan forget such a well-publicized case from 10 years earlier?
Morgan's memory on High Potential sometimes seems too perfect
I actually liked it when Morgan was trying to recall facts about the Bucket Lane Murder. While her mind is truly a marvel, having her struggle a bit makes her more relatable. And seeing her as a mom with two active kids, being in a sleep-deprived daze at the time, is also incredibly relatable. While Morgan was able to solve how the murder was committed, she was a bit slow getting to the identity of the murderer. She mentally saw the timeline, when the family members were coming and going, and all the details. But that final piece of the puzzle seemed to elude her.
With her job as a consultant, and Soto's job on the line, the pressure was immense. Still, Morgan was able to figure it out in the nick of time. It was a feel-good win for the team, and for Morgan. And thankfully, we will get to see Morgan solve even more cases. TVLine reported that High Potential has been renewed for a second season.
While Morgan's romantic life was certainly ripe with potential during Season 1, I'm anxious to see who she may end up dating during the show's second season. After all, Tom the janitor-turned-nurse was her date to the police gala, while her friendship with Karadec continued to deepen. And if her dating life should be a bit distracting, would it be so bad if Morgan forgot a fact, or two?
