When a man trying to live forever is killed in his own home, Morgan and Karadec enter the world of technology and health on High Potential season 2 episode 12. The question is who Gabe’s enemies were to want him dead.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 2 episode 12.
The episode opens with the murder. Gabe, a man who owns a health company and is determined to live forever, is killed in his own home. The case soon takes a turn, when it turns out that the stab wound may have been self-inflicted, but he was still murdered.

Who hated Gabe to kill him on High Potential season 2 episode 12?
It doesn’t take long to get the details of the case. Gabe had plenty of enemies, including doctors and pharmaceutical companies not happy with his technology that was proving to work. However, it wasn’t them who hated him enough to kill him. Nor would they have the ability to do it.
What about the investors of the company? After all, it turned out that Gabe was embezzling funds to pay for a nursing home. That nursing home was for him, but not in the traditional way. It turns out that he was turning himself into a robot, uploading all of his information to the robot so he could live on forever even once his body died. I honestly felt like we were watching Dr. House on Fallout.
It turned out that Gabe had also bought out a tech company, only to close it down. This angered the man who sold the tech company to him, especially with the fact that it meant a five-year non-compete clause, which would be a death sentence in the industry. So, did he kill Gabe?

Karadec helps to calm Morgan down in the face of death
When Morgan and Karadec head over to Gabe’s house after talking to Gabe 2 and finding out that the Do Not Disturb function had been turned on earlier than normal, they end up trapped in his meditation room. It’s soon clear that Gabe had been poisoned with a toxin, and he chose to take his own life because the death by the toxin was so excruciating.
As they get stuck in the room, Morgan starts to panic. She tries to calm herself down, but with her life flashing before her eyes, she can’t focus on anything. It’s Karadec who helps. He grabs her and hugs her tight, making it clear that he isn’t going anywhere. It starts to work, as the door is opened — Soto was able to get access to the door function remotely to unlock it.
That’s when they realize that the toxin either must work slowly, or the Do Not Disturb function wasn’t started. It had something to do with the candles.

It wasn’t the tech guy. Morgan and Karadec find out from the cops that the poison was arsenic, and that arsenic was placed in the candles. Gabe lit the candles, killing himself. Who would know that? The girl who had been working for Gabe for the last eight years. She may have been at her sister’s wedding, but she could set up the murder ahead of time.
It turns out that she was angry that Gabe had shut down research into breast cancer, which was something she worried about getting. On top of that, she found out that he was funnelling the money into his own project, and she decided that he needed to die to give the rest of the science a fighting chance.

Oz struggles with his grief on High Potential
Throughout all of this, we learn that Oz is preparing for his father’s memorial. The problem is there’s no headstone, and he decides to talk to his mom about it. The insurance money had ran out, and the funeral home had caused some of that.
The funeral home had pushed for an expensive headstone that was coming from another country. That meant it was stuck in customs, which was racking up the bill more.
Of course, Oz is angry with himself, as he should have known about this. It’s Soto who helps him, as she shares what it was like to lose her mom. A child grieves too, and there are a lot of changes.
It’s Soto who also fixes the headstone problem as well. It turned out that the funeral home was in violation of FTC price gouging, and they could lose their license. So, in return for her silence, they offered Oz’s mom a full refund and the headstone she wanted. It’s a happy ending and just goes to show you need to choose your funeral home wisely. If only all were like the home in Six Feet Under.

As for another small personal storyline, Karadec gets home to find Lucia still there. He notes that he doesn’t think he can be the changed man she deserves to have, but she makes it clear that he was always the man she needed. While he broke her heart by calling off their engagement, she notices that it hurt him too, and she’s going to give this a chance.
To end the episode, Morgan shares that she feels awkward for losing it at Gabe’s. Karadec isn’t going to judge her, though. She’s human, and she’s allowed to do that. She would do the same for him, even though it’s unlikely that he’ll lose it like that. It doesn’t really matter. They are partners, and they will always have each other’s back.
High Potential airs on Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC.
