In some exciting news, High Potential season 2 has landed a September premiere date. In some surprising news, it’s the only scripted ABC series coming back that month.
We already knew that Will Trent and The Rookie were being held for the midseason, but we thought that TGIT, which is when 911 and 911: Nashville will lead, would come back at the end of September. The two shows and Grey’s Anatomy are being held for October.
Even the comedies are being held for later in the fall, so it’s unscripted that is leading ABC’s fall. High Potential coming back early could be great for the series, but it certainly makes it clear that streaming is where the views are at.

High Potential has been a hit on Hulu
While High Potential season 1 debuted well, it didn’t really take off until it returned from its midseason break in January 2025. From there, the numbers went up with the finale being the most-watched episode. This could have been due to people streaming on Hulu during the winter break and finding the beauty of the series.
The streaming numbers have certainly been good for the series moving forward. This is one of those shows that works well as a summer binge-watch. It’s light and funny, but it also has some excellent character development.
With more people streaming, it’s likely that ABC wants to keep the ratings going. Bringing High Potential season 2 back in mid-September rather than waiting for October will help with that.

High Potential season 2 will also have more episodes
The first season of the comedy series was only a 13-episode season. While this is very common for a freshman show, it was disappointing. In January, it felt like we only just got the show back to lose it again.
In some good news, High Potential season 2 will be longer. The exact episode count hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s likely to be around the 18-episode mark, to match the likes of other ABC scripted dramas.
An early start will potentially mean a longer break during winter, but it can also be a good thing on the other side of the winter hiatus. There will be more episodes to run back-to-back, helping with continuity to build on the ratings and secure a third season.
On top of that, High Potential season 2 will stream on Hulu the day after new episodes air on ABC. This helps to continue the streaming high that it’s had.
High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10/9c on ABC.
