True crime shows have been an addiction of mine since I was stuck in a remote location with nothing to do but watch the hands of a clock tick. From that point on, I’ve been hooked, constantly checking for returning and new shows alike. While not everyone was introduced the same way I was, I’m certain there are other true crime junkies out there who feel the same.
2025 might be drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean true crime channels are slowing down, especially Investigation Discovery, or ID, part of the Discovery+ family. A channel dedicated to true crime shows that are guaranteed to keep viewers thinking long after the episodes end. Over the next two weeks, they will continue airing episodes of shows released earlier this year, along with older shows returning for another season.
The Real Murders on Elm Street and The Friday the 13th Murders
These two shows began airing at 9/8c and 10/9c, respectively, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, as shown on Investigation Discovery’s official website, marking the start of spooky season with a clever reference to two famous horror franchises. And no, there is no mention of Freddy Krueger, Pamela, or Jason Voorhees, sorry, horror movie buffs.
Based on the most recent ID channel schedule, provided by TV Insider, The Real Murders on Elm Street and The Friday the 13th Murders will run till at least Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Mother, May I Murder?
Relatively new to the ID family, Mother, May I Murder? started its second season on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with the third episode expected to air on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 10/9c. The show and its premise are more or less explained by the title: mother and children duos, or teams, that plan out gruesome murders.
Investigation Discovery describes the show as "Terrifying true stories of mothers and their children when nature's strongest bond morphs into conspiracy, manipulation, and murder. Acts of greed, revenge, and cruelty leave trails of torment and destruction across America." Episode 1 featured a mother-son murder plot, and episode 2 focused on a family struck by what originally appeared to be tragic luck, only for investigators to discover something much more sinister.
Now that those are covered, we can take a look at premieres coming in the next two weeks.
American Monster
Returning for its 13th season at 8/7c on Tuesday, Oct. 28 is one of ID’s most unique shows: American Monster. Instead of relying on re-enactments, this decade-plus-long series takes a more raw approach, using home videos of the affected family to share their story.
Coupled with the interviews with family, friends, and investigators that every ID show has, seeing who the people actually were reminds viewers that this is real, and adds an extra layer of tragedy and emotion to shows that we are often disconnected from.
Personally speaking, this is one of my favorite shows on ID. It's one true crime fans should mark on their guides.
Special: Hunted by My Husband: The Untold Story of the DC Sniper
While not a series, I couldn’t leave this one-night event off the list. Airing immediately after the premiere of American Monster, the special will tell the story of Mildred Muhammad, the ex-wife of John Allen Muhammad, who, in October 2002, committed a string of sniper attacks in Maryland and Virginia, according to the FBI's official website. The attacks left 10 people in the DC area dead and three, including a 13-year-old boy, wounded.
Whereas many prior articles and news events focused on John Allen and his co-conspirator, Lee Boyd Malvo, the special will focus specifically on Mildred and her experience living with the would-be killer. Focusing on the domestic violence she suffered and the atrocities that happened behind closed doors, the documentary allows Mildred to share her story and give us a complete picture of the DC Sniper.
Mind of a Monster
While originally airing from 2019 to 2021, this series has yet to be on ID, but will make its first appearance there on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 9/8c. Episodes will feature infamous American serial killers, including Jeffrey Dahmer and Robert Hansen.

Who Hired the Hitman?
A new series, the premiere of the first season of Who Hired the Hitman? will be on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 11/10c. The six-episode mini-series investigates 'murder for hire' crimes, showing how investigators dig into relationships and events to determine who killed, or ordered the killing of, the victim.
ID appears to have a full slate for the end of 2025, and no doubt there will be more to come in mid-November and December.
