No stranger to detective roles, Swedish American actor Joel Kinnaman is accustomed to portraying an enforcer of the law even if it means bending it a little bit. There is some exciting news for fans of the actor, as he has two crime dramas coming in, and they couldn't be further from each other.
Variety reports that Kinnaman will headline Prime Video’s crime thriller Bishop. This project is the brainchild of co-creators and executive producers Little Marvin (Them) and Tony Saltzman (Dexter: Resurrection), Vertigo, and Amazon MGM Studios.
The Killing star also wrapped up filming an upcoming Netflix crime drama series, Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, which is based on Nesbo’s Harry Hole novels. Filming for Bishop will take place in Montreal, Quebec in May 2026. Both series are set for release in 2026, and in keeping with filmingscenes set outside the United States.

Take a peek at these two vastly different characters
In Bishop, brilliant and battle-scarred homicide detective Bishop Graves (Kinnaman) will put all of his skills to the test as he hunts for an elusive serial killer targeting San Francisco’s moneyed class. All the while, the increasingly audacious killer develops a devoted following among the city’s powerless and Bishop is convinced the murders connect back to San Francisco’s most powerful man, his own father, Lincoln Graves. The search for an A-list actor to play the part of Lincoln Graves is still ongoing.
As for Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, Kinnaman stars opposite Tobias Santelmann who plays Oslo Detective Harry Hole, a brilliant yet tormented homicide detective who goes head-to-head with his longtime adversary, the corrupt Detective Tom Waaler (Kinnaman). The first season, which is based on the 2003 novel The Devil’s Star, finds Detective Hole struggling to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it’s too late.

Joel Kinnaman is one busy actor
Many fans were first introduced to the 6’2” actor in the hit 2011 American crime drama television series The Killing as Detective Stephen Holder, an unkempt cop whose partner, Sarah, once followed him to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting where she hears him confess to being a "rock-bottom junkie" who once stole his young nephew's prized gold coin to buy drugs.
He is also known for his roles as Colonel Rick Flag, the hard driven field leader of DC Comics’ anti-hero team Suicide Squad, Takeshi Kovacs in Netflix’s Altered Carbon, Erik Heller from Prime Video’s Hanna, and Edward Baldwin in Apple TV+’s For All Mankind.
Besides the upcoming crime dramas, the actor has other projects lined up including Stefan Ruzowitzky’s thriller movie Ice Fall, which is about a Native American game warden and an infamous poacher who race against time to locate the site of an airplane carrying millions of dollars that crashed in a frozen lake. The film also stars Graham Greene in his final movie appearance and is dedicated to his memory.
