Karadec showed he does have a heart in High Potential season 1, episode 6

Karadec follows the law of society in High Potential, but that doesn't mean he always wants to. He showed that he doesn't always look at the world in black and white.

Karadec and Morgan had a difficult case in High Potential season 1, episode 6. In the end, we got to see Karadec show that he does have a heart. Somewhere!

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from High Potential season 1, episode 6

Karadec is one of those detectives who is by the book. He likes to follow the sets of rules that are laid out for him. A murderer is a murderer, and there is no way around that. Even at the start of High Potential season 1, episode 6, Karadec knew what he had to do: arrest the person responsible for murder.

The problem was that Sam, Elaine’s assistant and the one to find the body, didn’t remember anything about the night before. She didn’t think she’d killed Elaine, but all the evidence pointed to her doing it. Morgan was sure it wasn’t Sam, but Karadec had to work with the evidence. Just because Sam didn’t do it, didn’t make her innocent.

Despite knowing what he needed to do, Karadec did go on the investigation with Morgan. After all, that is his job. He needed to rule out all the other suspects as well, but he seemed to take more care and pay more attention because of Morgan.

A lot of cops get their suspect and that’s it. They look for everything that proves it wasn’t someone else rather than looking at everything clearly. Karadec didn’t do that. Instead, he worked with Morgan to see if he could find another suspect. It shows that he cares about what Morgan thinks, even if it was a wasted journey.

It wasn’t fully a wasted journey, though. While everything did end up pointing to Sam, Morgan realized there was something suspicious about Elaine’s office. The mirror was in the wrong place, and there was a reason for that. It had a camera.

Karadec was the one to share the good news

While Morgan did share the initial good news that the fight was caught on camera, it was Karadec who shared the last bit of great news for Sam. He made it clear, as he took her handcuffs off, that with a halfway decent lawyer, Sam could prove that the death was in self-defense.

To be fair, I would have argued accidental. Sam pushed Elaine off her, but not intentionally into the desk. Sam had no idea that Elaine would turn around and end up with one of her awards in her gut.

Whatever the lawyer goes with, that’s up to them and Sam. As for Karadec, we got to see that he didn’t want to arrest Sam for murder and he was more than willing to work with Morgan in a hope to prove it wasn’t her. He has a heart, even if he does usually view things in black and white.
